    Preschool Begins on September 4th.
The Hand to Hand Preschool is open to children 3 to 5 years old, iwho are potty trained and who live in the Butte
Falls School District. It is run by a nonprofit corporation and is located on the ground? of the Butte Falls Grade
School. The classroom is supplied by the BF School District. The class is taught by Jan' Nicolaus, a retired school
teacher. Parents pay $20 a month which pays for insurance and basic art supplies. The classroom size limit is 12
children.
The goal of the preschool is to give children experiences that will help them build school readiness skills. Children
learn how to play and solve social problems with other children. They learn how to follow directions in a group and
they gain experiences in listening and responding to stories, creating with many different kinds of art materials,
making music and singing. Children in preschool learn to become more independent.
We are always trying to improve by providing more experiences for our kids. One thing we will be continuing to
work on is a preschool library. Each book includes parent ideas and activities to extend the reading experience.
This library is being put together by high school students who also work in the preschool classroom. Lois Harmon
has been helping us as well. The Community Schools Partnership is helping to provide funding for the project. We
are looking for donations of preschool level books that your children may have outgrown.
We also will be working on providing more experiences in hands on science. We are looking for interesting things
in nature that children can handle and explore. Keep us in mind if you find something that you think might interest
children of this age (bird nests, shells, seeds ect.).
Parents who would like to register their children in preschool and also adults who would like to help out or who
have materials they would like to donate, can contact:
Jan Nicolaus, Hand to Hand Preschool, PO Box 183, Butte Falls, OR, 97522.
