The Friends of the Butte Falls Library would like to thank all of the
residents of the greater Butte Falls area who took the time to respond to
our “unscientific survey” regarding the future of the library building. During
the week of August 4th 420 surveys (with return postcards) were either
hand delivered to town residents or sent by mail to out of town
residents...Care was taken to make certain that all residents of the area
received the survey sheet and the return postcard....apologies to any who
were accidentally missed. The results of the survey were then tabulated
after the August 14th return deadline and the following are the findings of
the survey:
139 response postcards were returned (about a 33% return rate) -
Option #1 - stated that the library should be sold by the city of Butte Falls
to Jackson County for its replacement price of approximately $180,000
and should then be upgraded in accordance with the recommendations
of the local library design committee and the Jackson County Library
Services.
This option relieved 97 votes.
Option #2 - stated that the city of Butte Falls should remain the owner of
the library building and change the building to other uses such as
possibly moving the city offices to that building .
This option relieved 15 votes.
Option # 3 - stated that Jackson County should purchase property in the
city and build a new library facility.
This option relieved 27 votes.
Some of the return postcards included comments that were also
tabulated.... a copy of those comments can be seen at the library .
These findings have been passed on to the Butte Falls City Council.
With these figures the Council will hopefully gain a better understanding of
the feelings of the area residents regarding the future of the library building
that they, the residents, had such a major part in funding and building more
than 10 years ago.
