iced w ith changes, cut backs and controversies
ietween our com m unity. But, if you go out and
jok on the field or in the gym you w ill see the one
hing that has alw ays been Strong and True- O UR
JH LETES. I w ould like to challenge each and
very one of us to go w atch them ; I m ean really
ee w ho they are and w hat they have accom p-
ished. Every w eek they w alk out on the field
now ing that they soon w ill be hit so hard that it
night knock their helm ets off their heads or get
hrow n to the ground w ith so m uch force it m akes
hem see stars, and if that w asn ’ t bad enough they
iften find them selves at the bottom of an 8- m an
file up. And then there are those w ho intention-
illy throw them selves on a hard floor just to keep
i ball in play, know ing that the part of their body
hat w ill be hitting the floor is not protected by
lads, and then, w ithout hesitation, they do it
igain. But the AM AZIN G thing is that they
ontinue putting them selves in harm s w ay for
/hat? FO R TH E LO VE O F THE G AM E ...T HAT M Y

)ver the past years w e have w atched our athletes
ilay sick, play w ith ankles so sprained they could
lardly w alk, and through the pain they w ould play
ven harder. That is w hen w e w ere the proudest of
hem , they allow ed us to w itness their drive and
leterm ination, and then, know ing that they
/ouldn ’ t give up, that they w ouldn ’ t let their team -
nates dow n, that is w here they show ed us their
learts.
hey can ’ t fight against cut-backs, politics and all
he other obstacles, but that is w hy w e as parents,
riends, fam ilies and teachers should step in and
nake sure that the best is done for them , because
hat is all they have ever given us, their best It is
m r turn now to show them w hat kind of deter-
lination and heart w e have.
SO w ith this reason w e have resurrected THE
IO O STER C LUB . W hen the final decision w as
lade to re-establish the Booster C lub w e w ere
aid that w e w ould be responsible for keeping our
ports program s running, and w ith that w e w ere
liven the concession stand to help us w ith our
ask. A t that tim e M ary Slaten agreed to be in
harge of THE BO O STER C LU B. She w as told
/hat w e w ould be responsible for, and that w e
/ould have to raise our ow n m oney to get
verything started. So that is w hat The Slaten Clan
lid. R ob and the boys w orked over a m onth
reparing a float for the 4 th of July Parade in
hady C ove. They w on First Place and a cash
rize of $1,000.00. The Slaton gals did other
jndraisers, and w hen they w ere done they had
aised over $1200.00. W AY TO G O SLATO N C LANl
veryone know s that there is a lot of w ork in
tinning a concession stand, but it can also be a
at of fun. W e have a lot of things planned for our
nproved concessions. First off, after all the hom e
am es w e w ill be offering the players a free m eal,
re w ill also offer the fans a great dinner special at
n affordable price. O ur goal is to keep our fans
om ing back for m ore. W e w ant you to com e and
ee all nf our O UTSTANDING ATH LETES.

THE ZUCCHINI ARE COMING, THE ZUCCHINI ARE COMING!!!
Yes, it ’s true. The com m unity garden is producing an abundant crop of zucchini as w ell
as cucum bers, sunflow ers and trum pet flowers. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers:
Y vonne W itte, M elti Knighton, D an & Patti Shafer, C athy C arlisle, S cott Beem er, Ida
Loring, and M iriam Liberatore, w ho have unselfishly given their tim e and talents. The
first two harvests of cucum bers and zucchini has gone to the cafeteria to incorporate into
the lunch m enu. (Haven ’t you noticed how m uch healthier som e of the students are?)
W e have begun a fall garden and it too looks to be a good producer thanks to great late
sum m er w eather. In due tim e, w e expect to have lettuce, peas, beets, onions and
carrots w hich, in a sm all w ay, w ill help provide som e fresh produce to the school kids.
In order to extend the growing season, w e plan on putting up a greenhouse, (donated by
Lori Biondo, thanks you very m uch), but are in need of som e lum ber, greenhouse film , a
door, w indow s and hardw are in order to get it up and operating, if you have som e of
these m aterials laying around, please consider donating them to the com m unity garden.
Lastly, w e are going to be repotting a bunch of landscape plants, donated (thanks R uby
Edwards) and w ill offer them for sale at the upcom ing O ctoberfest on O ctober 11 “ '. In
addition, w e w ill conduct a raffle, the w inner to receive an afternoon of sailing on Lost
C reek R eservoir, com plete w ith skipper and first m ate, Bud & M iriam Liberatore and
lunch for a fam ily of four. Bud prom ises that you w on ’t loose your lunch! Please look for
our plants and get your chance for a relaxing cruise.
