Wild Land Fire Season Upon Us
Burning restrictions are in effect. Forest fires are
serious business. Oregon faced its worst-ever wild
land fire season last year. All it takes is one simple,
mindless act to re-create another Timbered Rock or
Biscuit Fire in our own backyard. And, none of us
want that to happen. Practice Wildfire Safety. Here
are some helpfill tips. For a complete pamphlet on
Wildfire Preparedness or for a free home and property
evaluation, contact the Fire Department at 865-4383.
Contact your Fire Department. Make sure
that fire vehicles can reach your home.
Clearly mark all driveway entrances.
Report hazardous conditions that could
cause wildfire.
Teach children about fire safety and keep
matches out of their reach.
Post fire emergency telephone numbers.
Plan escape routes away from your home -
by car and by foot
Create a 30-100 foot safety zone around
your home. If you’re in the forest, 10O-foot
minimum safety zone.
Rake leaves, dead limbs and twigs. Clear
all flammable vegetation.
Remove fire wood, rubbish and leaves from
under structures.
Remove tree limbs 15 feet from the ground.
Remove dead branches that extend over
your roof.
Clear shrubs, etc., within 15 feet of a
stovepipe or chimney
Clear a 10-foot area around propane tanks
and the barbeque.
Regularly dispose of newspapers and
rubbish.
Store gasoline, oily rags and other
flammables in approved safety cans and
place cans a safe distance from structures.
Stack firewood at least 100 feet away from
your home.
Plan your water needs.
