contact Lori Paxton at City Hall at 865-3262 to
complete a simple form and drop off your
subscriber fee. Because JC Dispatch will not
have a non-subscriber’s address, if a fire
emergency breaks out in their home or on
their property, the non-subscriber is left to
deal with the fire emergency. If you have
concerns or questions about fire emergency
assistance, please contact the fire
department at 865-4383. We ’ll be more than
happy to talk with you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all! The Butte
Falls Volunteer Fire Department wishes you a
safe and prosperous New Year. We have
enjoyed having the opportunity to serve our
community this past year and are proud of
the partnership we have built with you. We
look forward to the New Year ahead.

2002 witnessed milestones and many
changes for the Butte Falls Volunteer Fire
Department. For instance, eight of our 11
volunteer firefighters are now fully certified in
structure and wild land firefighting having
completed the course at Rogue Community
College. We ’ve integrated a wild land fire
suppression program with the inclusion of a
fully functional wild land fire engine; this is a
first for the community of Butte Falls. The fire
department responded to 30 alarms this past
year that is a 40% increase over the previous
year. We are expanding our emergency
medical response skills in order to better
assist our community. The Junior Firefighter
Program continues to be monitored and
enhanced with special emphasis on school
safety participation. Our BFFD Auxiliary has
implemented a plan addressing firefighter
rehab needs at active fire scenes in addition
to providing fundraising assistance.
We are confident that 2003 will be a banner
year.

Historically, the BFFD is a town fire
department originally funded with tax dollars
paid by the town residents of Butte Falls.
Several years ago Butte Falls agreed to
extend this fire coverage outside town limits.
There is not an existing fire coverage tax
base for those who live outside the town. In ;

not have your address recorded and,
therefore, cannot automatically activate the
fire department’s alarm system in the event of
a fire emergency. However, the town of Butte
Falls has agreed to provide protection to
community residents that subscribe to the
