Six Ways to Bury A Go©d Idea
by- Joyce Hailicka
1. It will never work.
2. We can ’t afford it.
3. We ’ve never done it that way before.
4. We ’re not ready for it.
5. It’s not our responsibility.
6. We ’re doing fine without it.
New ideas are fragile and all too easily killed
by criticism. People who work in groups often
help nurture new ideas and ways to help
make the community a better place for all.
There are many wonderful ideas people have
to help the town of Butte Fails.
For example, efforts are underway to raise
money to install new play equipment for the
elementary school playground. The BF Fire
Department is applying for grants to improve
their safety equipment. Our police chief
secured funding for a “ campus cop ” . And
plans to construct a water bottling plant are
underway. Much of the work to secure
outside funding for the benefit of our Town
comes from the volunteer efforts of many.
The Butte Falls S e KL'J is an excellent
example of a volunteer effort to inform and
honor the work being carried out in our

community by many. The
would not
be possible without the volunteer coor
dination efforts of Cory Hamann.

is the 20th of the month... the 20th
of the month.... the 20th of the month
This year 3 students at the Butte Falls
High School have undertaken community
service projects to help the school and
community. Amber Pettit has coordinated
efforts to install a new basketball court at the
elementary school and is making a new

Brandi Slaton is getting a new PA system
purchased and installed at the high school

football field and will be painting the dugouts
and improving the entrances to the field. And
Elizabeth McLauchlan is working to bring the
SMART Reading Program to the elementary
school. All of these improvements amount to
over $10000. which the students raised
themselves through donations, grants, and
volunteer work.
Next time we hear the inevitable criticism that
might otherwise kill an idea in the bud, just
look around you at the library, museums,
toddler playground, beautiful old-fashioned
street lights, tennis court, road into the falls,
picnic area at the falls, River Cove Trail, Fairy
Glen Trail, ballfield, flowers hanging in the
park, bridge over the creek, the wonderful 4th
of July celebration, work being carried on by
various clubs, organizations, and local
churches, city officials, improvements at the
cemetery, and the donations of hundreds of
thousands of dollars to help our students go
to college--- and know without all of this time,
effort, and ideas where would our community
be today?
Thank you one and all for helping to make
Butte Falls the special place that it is. God
Bless you... there are too many of you to
name. But what would we do without you!
To Joyce from Cory-1 have two questions...
1. We do have some neat people living and
helping in our town don ’t we?
2. What would we do without you?
If you have something for the
please turn it in at City
Hall, email me (dhinc@cdsnet.net )
mail to Cory PO Box 198, or call
me at 865.3310. PLEASE if at all
possible use your computer and
give it to me on a disk with a
paper copy. I use Corel word
perfect... Microsoft word works
too. Anything that I don ’t have to
re°type is wonderful... Thanks!
