By- Ina Pearl Hilkey, President
From the desk of the director...”The Library is
here to stay. No Computer can or should
replace the vital human touch. You might
think that the Library-that solid building block
in the history of most American cities- might
face extinction in the overwhelming and
growing presence of the internet.... but, the
nation’s librarians, who would face extinction
say this isn’t going to happen. The Library
and the librarian are here for the duration.”
We agree!

Just to confirm the continued need for library
services, a recently completed survey shows
that 66% of Jackson Co. residents used their
local public library at least once during the
past year, up from last year’s results of 58%
and better than the statewide average of 59%.
The Friends of Butte Falls Library are seeking
info and input to enhance and stimulate more
usage and service of our library. Storytime for
little ones is now available and the summer
reading program begins June or July. The
' group is planning another book sale in the
park on July 4th and a float for the parade.
| Suggestions for both will be appreciated. If
you have ideas and suggestions, please write
them down and leave in an envelope at the
library or send to PO Box 266. Membership is
open to all. To be a member is a contribution
of time or money. Please join. Help us make
improvements and provide enjoyable
programs for our community.

5 would lite to remind the comm
unity that the Job Council still
sends me to your lovely town to
discuss employment and training
services. Every year, the Job
Council assists hundreds of
youth, displaced homemakers
and dislocated workers to
increase their skills for
employability. I can be located in
the Butte Falls Library from 1=3:00
P.M. every other Tuesday. For the
public’s convenience, I have
added the following schedule of
dates I plan to be in Butte Falls
through the first half of 2001:
1/23 2/02 2/20 3/20 4/3 4/17
5/1 5/15 5/20 6/12 6/26
Sincerely,

Thank You Butte Falls YXWVUTSRQPONM
This is to say “THANK YOU”. i have
verily enjoyed these past 6 months of
running Butte Falls Hatchery. I was
impressed by the open and friendly
manner of your community to a
stranger and the community support of
Butte Falls Hatchery has been much
appreciated. I wish you the best of luck
with the 2001 legislature in keeping
Butte Falls Hatchery a contributing
partner in your community’s
uniqueness and livability. A VERY
SPECIAL THANKS to Janice at the
U.S.F.S. and the folks who live at the
corner of Oak and South Street for
bringing “dog” back to the hatchery. I
guess since I had to run an errand he
decided to go up to the store and pick
up a quick snack. I hope to sometime in
the future be stationed here once more
again to enjoy “just another day in
paradise”.
