As I look back on last year, I recall all the fun and
enjoym ent I ’ve had fishing. I believe the best
tim es were those of seeing the sm ile on childrens
faces as they reeled in their catch, and the proud
look on M om and Dad ’s face. Taking your children
fishing is usually fun and quality tim e w ell spent. I
hope to see m ore of it this next year.
Fishing on the Upper Rogue for steel head should
start picking up soon as m ore fish head
upstream . Below G rants Pass is good now,
especially down at Raine Falls. There are three
local lakes open year round if you w ant to catch
trout. There are W illow Lake, Lost Creek and
M edco Pond.

Be sure to pick a new fishing regulation book up,

D uring the late 70s ’ , m y w ife Renee and I lived on
the O lym pic Peninsula in W ashington. There, one
can find som e of the best salm on, steel head and
trout stream s in the continental U.S. Alm ost
everyday you could find m e at one of m y m any
favorite fishing holes, usually doing pretty well.

Then one day I asked Renee if she w ould like to
go and I w ould show her how to catch a big fish.
W hen it was tim e to go hom e, I packed the fishing
gear, w hile she packed out a 50 lb. Salm on she
had caught w ith m y dad behind her carrying
another the sam e size. Both of them grinning
from ear to ear. O n another occasion I took Renee
steel head fishing for her first tim e. It was a good
days fishing as I had caught a nice steel head, but
the frown on m y face as we left for hom e was due
to the
tree steel head Renee was carrying! Talk about
beginners luck!
