too fest for a clean shot. Oh well, back to
the book. About 10:30 my buddy see’s a
three point, sets the book down, fires one
shot, hits the backbone and instantly
drops that buck! Put on the frying
pan”PA”, moms bringing home the bacon.
That’s right. I said MOM. My hunting
buddy is Mildred Arnold. Way to go girl!
When she told me the story, all I could do
was bow down and say “ oh mighty
huntress, Tell me your secrets.”
The Fishing/Hunting Line
by- Dave Curphey
After spending most of my spare time
fishing this year, I have come to one
conclusion. Man cannot live on fish alone!
You have to have some red meat and fowl
to fill that dinner platter occasionally.
Although I have fished Willow lake this
month and caught some trout and yellow
perch, most of my time has been spent
hunting. My boy’s and I have been
bringing home a lot of grouse and quail.
There seems to be a lot of them out there
this year. Also, this year’s fall turkey
hunt should be good. As we have been
seeing a lot of them lately.
It’s really good to see women in the
field hunting and fishing. And Butte Falls
has a good number of ladies that are
capable of “bringing home the bacon.”
So good luck on your hunting and
fishing, bring back a big one!

I’ve been told the duck hunting in our
area has been fair, with a good number of
teal, and some speckled belly geese being
taken. Jake called me up Sunday, while he
was over East and said they had limited
out on mallards and had seen thousands
of Canadian geese in the fields feeding.

This years deer hunting has been fair, a
little slow at first with the dry conditions. I
have been seeing some nice bucks in the
back of pickups or hanging in camp, now
that we ’ve had a little rain. The deer have
been moving down, so this last week of
hunting, one should hunt the lower
elevations.

Now for ” the rest of the story” A hunting
buddy of mine had noticed a deer
crossing while hunting the first two weeks
of deer season. After hunting those two
weeks without getting a shot off at a buck,
my buddy decides to sit at the crossing
and get a buck. My buddy sits at the
crossing reading a good book, looks up
and sees a nice four point, but it’s going
too fast for a clean shot. Oh well, back to
