The kids of Butte Falls did it ag ain 8
On April 8, after qualifying at the Southwestern Regional
competition in March, two teams from the grade school went to
Corvallis to compete in the OM-Destination Imagination State
Tournament. This two-part competition celebrates creative
problem solving by some very talented and gifted kids.
The team that represented Butte Falls Elementary Division 1
consisted of; Cody Kinyon, Jake Lyon, Jordan Dyke, Crystal
Hoppes, Ayn M arie Hailicka, Nathan Bedard and Jenny Jones ,
coached by Deanne Strong and Sherry Sipple.
The Intermediate Division U was comprised of Jesse Barnett,
Melody Carlisle, Dusty Hayes, Shawna Henagin, Brandy
Johnston, Ronnie Lyon and Shelley Marquard. Cathy Carlisle
and Laurie Dyer coached the intermediate team.
The elementary team did an excellent job putting together a
creative solution to "MixingApples and Oranges" which they chose
as their long-term problem. They had certain criteria which had
to be included in their program. All seven of the kids interacted
with each other ven' well and their performance was almost
flawless. They received a daVinci award for one of their technical
elements at the regional competition. The team worked hard
against some very large schools and finished in a wonderful 5th place. Many friends and family traveled to Corvallis in support of the teams
and celebrated this wonderful victory.
The intermediate team chose to tackle "Instant Pudding Improv" for their problem. This was something new this year but these kids made
it look easy. They combined long hours of research with a variety of unknown factors to present a humorous solution to their problem.
They too had their best finish ever with a 2nd place win. They also earned the daVinci award for their performance technique and for the
way they worked together at solving their overall problem. What a thrill for the team and the coaches! They were even more surprised to
learn that they were only 7 points away from winning 1 st place and continuing on to the W orld Competition. They were also the only single
A team to make it to the State Tournament!
The Town of Butte Falls can be very proud of these kids. They not only performed well at the competition but were well behaved and
respectful as well. These children are a real asset to the community so take the time to say, "well done !” when you see one of these great kids.
