The December 12 Council meeting was the last regular council
meeting that Bobbie McClanahan will serve as City Recorder. Bobbie
has served our community well. She will be missed. Lori Paxton will
take over the role of City Recorder at the January 9 Council meeting.
Lori has been working as a volunteer in recent weeks to learn the
computer programs as well as the daily routines of the position. We
appreciate her efforts. Sandra Boyd will continue in the role of City
Recorder assistant, to “Backup” the position in the absence of the
recorder.
Mike Witte, Planning Commission representative, began his
report with comments that the “Town Square Master Plan” contradicted
the Butte Falls zoning ordinances. He stated that we might just as well
get rid of the Planning Commission, and let the Downtown
Development Association (BFDDA) take over. I personally tried to
explain that the role of the BFDDA is that of review and advice. The
process would still require a town square property owner to go to the
Planning Commission with a request. The BFDDA representative on
the Planning Commission would provide advice to the Planning
Commission on the “Town Square Master Plan” goals as it related to the
proposal. Even if the BFDDA did not approve, the Planning
Commission could still vote to make a recommendation for approval to
the Council even if the goals of the BFDDA conflicted with the
proposal. I stressed that the Town Council was the final decision
maker. I asked Ethel Hoppe to read the BFDDA Mission Statement:

The idea of having a community get-together has been suggested
to share the “Town Square Master Plan” and provide residents with
information and give an opportunity for input.
For those of you wondering about the Butte Falls Ambulance
Service, we still have an ambulance service in Butte Falls. We are in a
transition phase, working with Mercy Ambulance Service. A future
newsletter will give you more details. If you have an emergency call

Last fall, work began on developing a
set of contracts that would make the Town
ready, should funding be available, to replace
the leaking water main system throughout
town. This work is being done under the
terms of a Rural Investment Fund grant,
with Southern Oregon Regional Economic
Development, Inc. using Lottery funds.
Prior to completion of this project, the
package will be available for review by town
members for your possible input. The
Town Council should finalize this plan by
mid-January.

Square”, instilling a character that represents unity and inspired feelings
of community pride...even to visitors.” I believe that the mission
statement clearly states the goal of the BFDDA, and that given the
opportunity, the BFDDA, the Planning Commission and the Town
Council can develop a smooth process. Mike Stritenberg, member of
the BFDDA and BFDDA representative to the Planning Commission
disagreed with Mike Witte’s comments. Mike Stritenberg stated as he
left the City Hall that he was resigning from the BFDDA and the
Planning Commission. I hope that he reconsiders and that he and the
Planning Commission can work together to accomplish common goals
