"Safety tip of the Month:" Check and clean your chimney in order to reduce the risk of flue fires. T H E H O T SPOT "New Recruit" The fire departm ent welcom es M ike Blake, who has joined our ranks as our newest recruit firefighter. Thanks, M ike, for taking time to help m ake our com m unity a safer place! "Firefighters Needed;" W e need several more citizens who would be willing to join our department. Becom ing g a firefighter is a big decision. To be a good one requires the expenditure of tim e and effort, and no one has ever said the job of a volunteer firefighter is an easy one. Fortunately, we have few hostile fires in our area, but it is impossible to predict when one will occur, and every volunteer m ust be ready to respond at any tim e, day or night, in sum m er heat or winter cold. It can be tough, som etim es, when jolted awake by the ringing of the fire phone and the wail of the alarm siren, and you leap out of bed like a galvanized ferret, throw on your clothes, and head for the fire station, it might be 2:00 A.M . and you have to be at work at 7:00, but you go to the station anyway, because a neighbor is in trouble and needs your help. That's what being a volunteer firefighter is all about helping friends and neighbors who are in trouble. The fire department has a chimney brush that may be borrowed. Check with a firefighter or the city recorder, if no one is at the station. Have a safe and happy 1996! YXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA THE JO B COUNCIL Randy Costello, Job Counselor from the Job Council wishes to let Butte Falls area residents know of several new training's that have been developed to m eet the demands of the Southern Oregon labor market. Included are the following: The Institute of M edical Sciences, Inc. offers 6 week courses for M edical Receptionist, M edical Insurance Billing, M edical Assistant, and Phlebotomy. Abdill Career School has been approved by the Oregon Departm ent of Education to teach classes in Office Administration, M edical Secretary, and M edical Office Technology. The 1995 Ecosystem W orkforce Demo Project will conclude in M arch 1996, with current participants dividing their time between coursework at RCC and self em ployment as Ecosystem Restoration Contractors.
