On October 7, the extended area telephone
service to Medford and Eagle Point went into
effect. Our own D O T T IE V IL L A helped to bring
this about. When she heard that petitions for a
change in service were available at the High
School she set out to see that enough signa ­
tures were obtained to show that there was a
“community of interest'. Once this was verified,
Dottie kept community organizations up to date
on events. When the P.U.C. hearing was sched ­
uled, Dottie organized a phone committee to
call everyone listed in the Butte Falls phone
book. A large audience turned out for the hear­
ing and voiced an overwhelming YES for the
service. We all need to give Dottie a "BIG
THANKS". If it were not for her persistence and
hours of time she put in to seeing that enough
signatures were gathered on the petitions, we
probably would not have those new cheaper
rates.

Dottie is known for her friendliness and her
cheerful voice on the telephone. You may have
talked to her and not even known it. Dottie orga ­
nized several phone committees in the last two
years including those for Cycle Oregon in 1994,
the September Community Potluck and the

Dottie Villa is someone that can always be
counted on. Whether you're having trouble with
a project, need help with entertainment or a
group in town is trying to raise money, Dottie is
always there. Just a couple of years ago while
sitting in the community hall during a Home
Extension meeting, a comment was made that
one of the refrigerators had •died" and a new
one was needed. In just a few short minutes
Dottie had volunteered one of her beautiful oil
paintings and a raffle was planned. Within two
months enough money was raised to purchase
the new refrigerator. Not only did Dottie donate
the painting, but she sold more raffle tickets
than anyone else.
Dottie was there again last year when the ambu­
lance scheduled an auction. She contacted an
auto dealer in Medford and asked that he do ­
nate an auto for the auction. Although she was
unable to get the car, she did get him to donate
a check for $100. Dottie ’s efforts didn ’t stop
there. She was able to get dozens of tomato
