The Department of Environmental Quality re ­
cently announced that the community of Butte
Falls will be awarded a grant to develop a recy ­
cling program. The request was initiated by an
interested Health Class taught by Mike Har­
rington. A community group was formed which
f
developed how the recycle program would be
initiated and the grant was submitted. Currently
Jatina Baldwin is starting a RECYCLE CLUB at rp
the High School that will take charge of program
development. It is hoped that by the fall there
will be a place in town to bring all your recycla ­

Interviews were held with the seven applicants
on April 27th. See the June Bulletin for the re ­
sults.
The first Margaret Howell Memorial Scholarship
was presented to a home-taught student, Beth
Coleman. Beth, who will attend OSD, received
the $500.00 scholarship at the April 20th Home
Extension meeting. BF Scholarship President,
Gayle Koch presented the scholarship, repre ­
senting Dick and Wendy Earl, family of Margaret

WASTE to a proper disposal facility — the Jack-
son County Expo Park! This annual program
allows you to bring in old paint, weedkillers,
household chemicals and other toxic materials
that don ’t belong in your garbage can — for a
very low cost, only $5 per vehicle - car-pool your
toxics with a neighbor. For more information

A large watershed analysis project has recently
begun in which the condition of the Big Butte
Watershed will be examined. The Butte Falls
Ranger District will be focusing their effort in the
Big Butte Springs watershed. The BLM is look ­
ing at the central part of the Big Butte Water ­
shed encompassing largely the North and
South Fork of Big Butte Creek. A unique aspect
of this effort is that the Forest Service and the
Bureau of Land Management are working to ­
gether to get this job done. The result of this
work will be projects identified to aid in water ­
shed restoration, timber sale proposals and
other things to implement the new forest plan. In
the early stages of this analysis we are seeking
input from local residents about issues or con ­
cerns and suggestions for projects to consider.

City Council meetings are held the s e c o n d
T h u rs d a y o f e a c h m o n th and are open to the
public. Special sessions are held when nesces-
sary and may or may not be open to the public,
it depends on the reason for the meeting. Exec ­
utive sessions are not open to the public,
however, no decision pertaining to Town
business can be made in executive session;
council must come into open session to make a
decision. Employee policy and/or employee re ­
lation meetings are not open to the public un ­
less the employee wishes to have it so. Budget­
ary work sessions are open to the public.
