A farm labor office was set up
at Ahtanum Farm Labor Camp re
cently in Union Gap, Washington,
to serve the Yakima Valley.
The
office w ill try to find immediate
jobs for workers who need assis
tance. Ninety-five men have been
placed on jobs in the first 15 days
of operation. The job center w ill
work closely with workers, grow
ers, and the Washington State Em
ployment Office.

ley" — Jim Amaya's Spanish pro
gram on KROW radio in Dallas,
Oregon, has been so successful
that beginning next week, Jim w ill
have two programs instead of one.
Jim has received so many re
quests from Albany, Woodburn,
Independence, Monmouth and the
surrounding areas that he w ill
have a program on both Thursday
and Friday nights.
The program
w ill be from 8:00 to 9:00 and w ill
continue for the rest of the sum-
Although this is Jim's first ex
perience with radio broadcasting,
"he is doing extremely w ell" says
Mike White, program director of
KROW. Jim began by taping his
programs, but now they are broad
casted live.
Fred Herrera's Spanish program
on the Woodburn radio station
KWRC, can be heard every Sunday
morning from 7:00 to 8:00. But,
as more Spanish speaking people
arrive, he w ill have more pro
grams. Last summer he had four
Spanish radio programs.
Mr. Herrera takes requests while
on the air and also by mail. Many
times people come to see him dur
ing and directly after the program
to thank_him for his program.

Over 30 members of the Friday
Night Club o f the West Stayton
Opportunity Center took part in a
"Cake Walk" last Friday evening.
A cake walk is something like
the game musical chairs.
First a
number is placed' on the floot.
Then everyone forms a circle and
marches around the room in time
to music. When the music stops
the person who is on the number
wins the cake.
The participants paid ten cents
for each cake walk.
There were
seven cakes donated for the event,
and the club made over $13.00
during the evening.
Mrs. Enid Breeding of the Stay-
ton Opportunity Center, said that
this event was such a success they
are planning another soon.

pasado.
Un "cake walk" es algo como
el juego sillas musicales. Primero
se pone un número en el suelo.
Entonces todos forman un círculo y
marchan a reldedor del cuarto con
el músico.
Cuando termina el
músico la persona que queda
encima del número gana el pastel.
Los participiantes pagaron diez
centavos por cada juego.
Hubo
siete pasteles donados para el
evento, y el club ganó más de
$13.00 durante la noche.
La Sra. Enid Breeding del Centro
de West Stayton, dijo que este
evento tuvo tanto éxito que
planean otro muy pronto.
