GREEN SEA TURTLE (CHELONA my das)
Length: Less that 4 ft.
Range: Widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters near coastlines.
Nesting occurs year round with a peak from June to August in the Hawaiian
Islands.
LEA THER BACK SEA TURTLE (DEMUCHLL YS coriacea)
Weight: to 1 ton.
Range: In most oceans, ranging from temperate to tropical waters.
The largest of the sea turtles. The shell is arranged in a mosaic pattern consisting
of hundreds of small to medium bones. A thin dural layer covers these bones and
dermal (skin) structure. This structural arrangement allows the shell to bend.
HAWKS BILL SEA TURTLE (ERETMOCHELYS imbricata)
Length: 9m.
Range: Wide ranging, but most common in tropical waters.
They have a very rough shell (carapace) which is often used for jewelry and
other crafted articles.
