DENIS BOURLAND
Dennis C. Bourland does all sorts of art — he loves cartooning to get out his
great good humor which is itched by what he sees around him. He lives in Astoria and
a few years ago while working at Coast Rehabilitation Services inaugurated an art
program among the MR/DD folks, whose work has since been prominently displayed
He says of his cartoons:
/ am primarily an abstract painter and art teacher but I do love to draw and tell
stones with my drawings. I have always admired the single panel cartoon of the old
timers in the New Yorker magazine such as Peter Arno, James Thurber and Charles
Addams as well as contemporary cartoonists as Callahan and Gary Larson that you
see in your local newspapers. So a few years ago I started to try my hand in this, for
me. new medium, and after a few hundred attempts I think I’m beginning to get the
hang of it. I haven’t got up the nerve to try and publish any of them but this is the
second time Mike has shown them in his fine little newspaper (Dec 1991), and I do
appreciate the opportunity to display my efforts Let me know what you think of them
