TAI TRINH
DAN DECKERT
I grew up with a mentally retarded man named Tai Trinh. He was a huge
part o f m y childhood and my life, but it wasn't until I started working at Coast
Rehabilitation that I began to notice the beauty and expression in the faces
around me. I grew to admire and respect all the people I worked with, and I
wanted to express that in the best way I knew how. That is how I came to draw
these portraits — with love, respect, and a fascination I can't quite explain. I want
inside their heads, to look out through their eyes, but this is as close as I could
get. Thank you everyone who loaned me your faces. I hope I did you justice.
