Purple Aster
Purple Asters are out in abundance this time of year,
growing in ditches, fields, yards, almost anywhere people
don’t pull them out. They add color to the various greens
of the countryside and last quite well when picked and
placed in water.
The Asters belong to the Compositae family, one of
the largest families in the plant kingdom. Including some
20-thousand species of the Compositae Family claims
one-tenth of all flowering plants. Flowers are in dense heads,
each head appearing like a single flower but actually com
posed of from a few to several flowers or florets.
Some other common Compositae flowers are dan
delion, sunflowers, goldenrod, and lettuce.
