If these figures are applied to Clatsop County a total of 45 women were assaulted during this period. Although rape is a problem, wife beating is more prevalent. It is the most widespread vio lent crime in the United States, and according to the same federal and state statistics, only one case in 30 is reported. In this area, with its high incidence of seasonal unemployment and alcoholism, the rate of wife beating is high. The Women's Crisis Service has already dealt with more than 20 cases. In all such cases the crisis service provides emotional support to the battered woman. If she wants to leave, attempts are made to find emer gency housing in a private home until she can be referred to a shelter home in another county. All calls and contacts with the Women's Crisis Service are in the strictest confidence. * fXOWE WOMENS CRISIS SERVICE OF CLATSOP COUNTY A VOLUNTEER O R G A N IZ A T IO N H eLP AND R EF6R A LS P RO VIDING F O R V IC T IM S OP FAM ILY V IO L E N C E A N D R A P E WE O FFER. •E M O T IO N A L S U P P O R T - • R E P E R A L S TO A G E N C IE S A N D SHCLYCR H O M E S • • C O M M U N I T Y ED U C A TIO N & SPEAKERS’ • O N 6 C H N G S U P P O R T A RAP GROUPS» COMPLETE CONFIDENTIALITY 3 2 5 -5 7 3 5 i VERN CLATSOP C O U N TY W C M E N 5 C R IS IS S E R V IC E A Ä= VUE T fcy l/F R y f+ART TO STAY BEH/VD TH F TIMES W72 and Ice Creamery in Cannon Beach s^/.B A1 0 " ■‘‘" f t Vl 9 O p en W e d th ru M e n 6 a m to 5pm X c e p t Sun 8am to 5pm J a n o t K a k a ta N O W S IR V IN G LUNCH TO GO • R IA K F A S T U N T IL 11130 L u c illa H o u s to n P u t s o m e v ig o r b a c k in to y o u r l i f e .
