Cub Scout Pack #422 spent Saturday morning on the Baldock Slough identify ing birds, particularly migrating ducks, and exploring other diverse habitat. Lots of very good questions and observations made by this interested group of Cub Scouts. Their leader is Patti Pickard. Photos by M.J. Guyer Group Photo Left to Right: Liam Blair, Randy Guyer, Jayden Clark, Colton Clark, Tyler Wirth, Haines Elementary School children were well prepared for a special performance by "Teddy Roosevelt's Oregon Roadshow" on Monday, May 9. The event was organized by the Oregop Historical Society and sponsored by Wells Fargo. Following the event at the school, the Eastern Oregon Mu seum in Haines and Rock Creek-Muddy Creek members hosted a second performance at the museum attended from people throughout the area. Approximately 60 were in attendance and one woman stated she felt that anyone who had been able to attend, "had missed a once in a life time opportunity." One La Grande resident who stated that he was an ex-mayor of La Grande commented on the exceptional presentation stating, "it was truly like Teddy was in the room." The actor fascinated audience members of all ages, speaking to individ uals as if the former president of the United States had traveled to see them especially and welcomed all questions. Organizers including former Haines Mayor, Mary Jane Guyer, and President Roosevelt himself stated they were extraordinarily impressed by the knowledge shown of American history and the President by the Haines students. They also commended the teachers and staff for the excellent preparation and students for their behavior and comportment during the presentation. Every Other Week For Now By Gina, Lynn and Evan Perkins ■ Due to too much stress in recent weeks and months and because I love my family and dearest friends (even more than I do this paper), we will remain printing the Recdrd-Courier every other week for now. After we are moved and settled in our beautiful new home (a wonderful opportunity has been given to us from dear old friends) out in the country, we will, as a family, make whatever decision is best for us as a whole. This means you won't be receiving a paper until week after next, and yes, I promise it will be there waiting for you then. I also promise that I will continue do what is in this paper's best interest. It is my sincerest hope that it will remain a vibrant, thriv ing record of our communities and their happenings, for as long as possible. Thank you to all who not only attended this paper's 115th celebra tion party, but to those who made generous donations including Durkee Creek Woodworking, the Haines Steak House, and to my wonderful friends, Heather Honeywell, Bekki Hurley, Sandy Wood, Vickie Christensen, and Mary Jane.
