As I sit behind my computer this early Wednesday morning, I am able to look up and see the gorgeous blue sky which frames the Elkhoms. The train that is passing as I write is carrying dozens of John Deere tractors. Arguably, we have some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere. But as beautiful as it is, it's not what I appreciate most. I like the fact that as a commu nity we're not whiners. We don't sit here and expect anybody else to fix our problems. We'll fight for sure, but we'll also come together and solve the problems that directly affect us. We support our excellent school. People whose kids and grandkids are grown still take the time to make hundreds of popcorn balls for Santa's visit. We have an exceptional library. We read. We think. We see the importance of investing in our fire department and pass library bonds. We care for our beautiful cemeteries and honor our veterans. Our museum salutes our heritage but we also embrace the future. We honor tradition but respect the diversity and rights of the individual. We'll vote you in. And we'll vote your ass out if you forget who you work for, try to control us, or take your perceived power a little too seriously. We're patriotic, but we're not sheep. Three very different churches have vibrant congregations. We will come together, but we will also walk right out of the middle of your service if your words insult our friends and neighbors. We're an eclectic mix. We can put on one heck of a Fourth of July celebration for the commu nity, raise some of the best cattle^, and can ride a four wheeler in town. We hear'the crow of a rooster in the morning, and are Used to the blaring of a train whistle at all hours. We'll talk about you. But we will also be the first to help you and give you our last dollar when you're facing a crisis. Yep. I love Haines. Melissa Garner and her family have organized the Haines Easter Egg Hunt for years. They don't mess around with plastic eggs. They beautifully dye dozens and dozens of real ones and have wonderful prizes for kids. Pine Eagle Charter School Track - April 1, travels to Nyssa. Easter There were activities all over this end of the world, with the Lions Club doing the Easter egg hunt at the high school. In Richland the Parks and Recreation held their Egg hunt at Hewitt Park. There was the sun rise service at the top of the hill, breakfast held at the Richland Grange. At the LDS Church they had a presentation of the Messiah. AUTO | HOME | LIFE I BUSINESS | RETIREMENT Cindy Endicott Mayor Jim Brown would like the residents of Haines to be advised that the Public Works Department will once again be working on maintaining the City rights of way by mowing and spraying for weeds. The City would like to thank everyone that has cooperated in the clean-up of the rights of way by moving personal items onto their private property. And a special thanks to those of you that maintain the rights of way that adjoin your property, it is highly appreciated. If the City did not maintain the rights of way it would be consid ered a liability issue with the City’s insurance company, which in turn could cause the City to pay higher insurance premiums. There are instances where there is no alternate place to park your vehicle but on the right of way. If that is the case, please maintain that area. Vehicles that are not being used, garbage trailers, burn barrels, burn piles, yard debris piles and other items are not allowed to be stored on the rights of way. Garbage cans are only allowed on the rights of way on regular garbage pickup day and must be located on your private property at all other times. The huntress. I'm also an unabashedly proud Nana.
