Still just a lit­ tle to early. Gosh when we get a nice warm day we are all ready for gardening and mowing. But can't mow the white powdery stuff. Wow almost didn't recognize the bright round object in the sky to the east. THE SUN. Whoops it's gone again. Don't forget the free Beef Dinner on Feb 4 . Locks of love donations the same night. Bingo Night Snow did not detour seven brave women. They made their way to the Grange.. My husband said just mention the word "go" and women are out the door. Yep, that is our motto. Seven people attended bingo Thursday night hosted by Karen Page and Carol Bouchard. Suzanne Watson won black out. Ladies had lots of food,fun and giggles... Snow did keep a few at home... Beef Week This week kicks off the Beef Week at school. See Erin Thomp­ son's letter to the editor in this issue for more details. New in Union County Snacz 4-H is a 4-H program. It focuses on Youth leadership, Community change and Health. What is Snacz? It’s a new 4-H program happening in Union County. The goal is to engage youth as advocates for creating “healthy snacking zones” in their schools and nearby stores. Youth are work­ ing with adult volunteers and 4-H Snacz Ambassadors to plan and conduct outreach activities to pro­ mote healthy snacking among peers and parents, to advocate for changes in school policies and practices to support healthy snacking. Several communities in Union county have Snacz clubs. It is only Union county for now, though they may go to Baker County next year. Club members in North Powder this year are Jessup, Abby and Sarah Orr, Gus and Olivia Mack-Skeels. They meet every other week and are fin­ ishing at the end of March. There are now “Badger Snacz “ signs at CJ'S store. There will be a ribbon cutting some time in February. There will be a meeting on Febb. 4 around 2:30 p.m. at the elementary school staff room. Mardi Gras Mardi Gras will be celebrated on Tuesday Feb. 9 from 4-7 p.m. at the Wolf Creek Grange. Join us for dinner and fun. Music by Kirby Records. Donations accepted. Skiing Skiing Across the Wallowas will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, 7 p.m. at Pine Eagle Charter School Library, Halfway. Veteran skier and photogra­ pher Dave Clemens will present a slide show about skiing across the Wallowa Mountains. Photos were taken during several ski trips made across the range by Dave, wife Sue, and fellow skiing enthusiast Dave Petrie between 1982 and 1990. Pic­ tures of the ski track groomed and maintained by Roger Sanders in the northwest comer of Pine Valley during the same era will also be presented. Severe Weather Training Severe Weather Training Workshop - Thursday, Feb. 11, 6 p.m. at the Halfway City Hall and Friday, Feb. 12,11 a.m. at the Richland City Hall. Baker County Emergency Manage­ ment and the National Weather Serv­ ice will be offering a Severe Weather Training Workshop and Flood Fight Workshop to all members of the com­ munity. Included will be Spotter Training, which includes definitions of severe weather, training on cloud and storm recognition, storm hazards and safety tips, and weather reporting procedures. Flood Fight workshop will cover equipment, procedures, and safety tips when dealing with flood events. Anyone interested is in­ vited to attend.
