i Record-Courier 5 THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4,2016 Chili and Potato Feed Remember the Chili and Potato Feed this Friday, Feb. 5 at Haines Elementary School from 4:30-7 p.m. This is an important fundraiser for our wonderful school. My kids are long since out of elementary school but we try and attend each year. I think it means a great deal to the kids and staff to know how much the com munity cares. Pearl Goes to School Sweet little Pearl, Mayor Jim Brown's little molly mule, went on a walk-about to the Haines play ground and was found Monday morning by principal, Mr. Flana gan. He took her home. 100th Celebration Mutual Improvement Club mem bers are busy, busy preparing for their 100th Founders Day Celebra tion. Evelyne Fisher is president of the club this year and shared with me that Belle Fisher, the founder (and no relation to Evelyne) hosted that first event in her home which is where Pat and Heather Heriza now live on Callie Fisher Lane. Lore has it that a snowstorm kept some of the ladies from attending that first meeting and therefore not included on the "official list" of charter members. It is pretty spe cial that for 100 years a service club comprised of women from the area has been helping to im prove out community. Congratula tions and thank you, ladies. Original charter members in cluded: Belle Fisher, Cora Fisher, Grace Perkins, Ella Brown, Fran cis Fisher, Lizzy Caster, Electra Fisher, Georgia Hoberg, Nannie Hoberg, CJ Osbourne, Nena Perkins, Edith Polly and Cornelia Potter. Haines Fire District Seeks Volunteers Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer fire fighter should con tact Chief Jerry Hampton at 541- 519-4816. Training is provided. Dates for Dump The Haines City Dump will be open from 9-1 on Feb. 6 and Feb. 20 this month. Covered Bleachers in the Works Congratulations to the Haines Stampede Association which an nounced plans to add covered grandstands. Shukles Visit I ran into John and Patty Shulde at the Frontier Restaurant on Sun day. They were home for a visit from Seattle. We got to have them an extra day because, unfortu nately, their car broke down. They are doing well and the Haines Community sure misses them. John was the Methodist Lay Min ister for North Powder, Patty played the piano and they both chaired the Fourth of July Pit BBQ. John is an electrician with Ash Grove and accepted a position at the plant in Seattle. Haines Principal Poses with Mayor's Mule Panadtoe Truck &RV Wash We wash anything on wheels! The job of principal just keeps getting more exciting every day!" The cute little mule belongs to Haines Mayor Jim Brown and is friendly little escape artist. Mayor Brown lives across the street from the school. Comments on Facebook included, "other duties as as signed....too many comments, too little time.... Does this mean you're a Democrat? You told me you wanted a race horse, you settled FlyGuy! Only in Eastern Oregon!.... It is still law on the books in either Montana or Wyoming that if a stu dent rides their horse to school, the principal has to feed and water the horse throughout the day.
