Brooklyn Book Fair and Taco Feed Feb. 4
This annual fundraising event will be held at the Baker
County Event Center on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 4:30-
7:30 Jp.m. Raffle tickets are on sale for a variety of prizes
that will be awarded in drawings during the evening.
Tickets are available from students or at the school. For

Nichols, a veteran, was born and raised in Baker and has spent
most of his life here. He is a graduate of Baker High School and
worked in the hay fields in Baker and in Salem part of several
summers up until he was 15, then worked a summer on the Paint
Your Wagon movie. At 16, he worked for Safeway in Baker and
then'in Portland while attending a business college.
After moving back to Baker, he joined the US Air Force serving
in Texas, Montana, Turkey and Colorado as an electro/mechan-
ical communications equipment repairman.
"While in Turkey I attended the University of Maryland college
classes offered at that time. After my discharge from the military
I again worked for Safeway in Baker and La Grande for the next
four years while attending Eastern Oregon State College. I grad
uated from Eastern with a BS degree in Business and Economics
with emphasis in accounting and also agri-business," Nichols
stated.
Prior to graduating Eastern in 1979, he became employed with
the Accounting Firm of O’Brien, Simmons & Co. (formerly Kolb &
Oster) here in Baker. Within a year, he moved to Ontario and
worked for accounting firms as a tax preparer and municipal au
ditor. In 1984, Nichols moved back to Baker as an accounting
partner with the firm Oster, Hotchkiss& Nichols.
"In 1991,1 incorporated as Bruce ANichOls, CPA.PC until 2004
when Stan Mitchell joined my firm and I changed the name to
Nichols and Mitchell, CPAs," said Nichols. Presently the firm has
some excess capacity and Nichols states he will continue to run
his accounting practice if elected and will hire someone at his firm
if necessary.
Nichols is married to his wife, Keljy, who is a second grade
teacher at Brooklyn and has three grown children.
