THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, ?015
Tami Waldron • tami@pinetel.com
And just like that, the snap of a
finger, October is on its way out.
A few things to share with you and
then yes, it has been another crazy
wild, busy week. All of the leaves
have fallen off of my black walnut
tree, and almost all of the nuts have
come down. Yes, you have to jump
a few times as it is veiy loud when
they hit the roof of the house.
We can burn now, as long as it
isn't in the middle of a dry field.
So, my summer's worth of papers
have officially gone up in smoke.
The nights continue to be cool, the
days sunny and warm. But
according to the weather man...
woman....it's all about to change.
Pine Valley Grange
The Pine Valley Grange bazaar
is taking place this weekend, Oct.
30 and 31. There are 16 tables of
all kinds of goodies and gifts. They
will be open both days from 10-3
p.m. The soup kitchen will have
hot homemade chicken noodle and
potato soup, along with chili and
fry bread. Hope to see you there.
Bingo
The VFW Hall Friday night
Bingo was filled with laughter and
the call of BINGO. There were 22
persons to enjoy the game. The
pots were $12 each. The jackpots
still remained stubborn and would
not leave. Our next Bingo, which
is Nov. 13, will be the only one in
Nov. due to Thanksgiving. The
regular pot will be $75 for 60 num
bers called and the special jackpot
is still $800 for 56 numbers. Come
on out and see what you been
missing. Bingo starts at 7 p.m.
Fall Festival
This last Saturday, New Bridge
held their Fall Festival/Harvest
Festival. The event was complete
with fabulous costumes, trunk or
treat, games and food. Here is the
run down of the evening. Bob
Duggan won first place for his
costume in the adult division. He
grilled the hot dogs and took time
out to enter!
The only under 18 I do know
that won (busy taking pictures)
was Charlotte Thomas of Rich
land. Jim and Becky Hunter won
the trunk or treat. (The trunks of
cars/trucks are decorated. The chil
dren go trunk to trunk to trick or
treat) The Shorthorn gave a $25
gift certificate to add to the prize
of the trunk winner.
Justin Welch won the guessing
contest of how many pieces of
candy were in the jar. There were
over 50 cakes won in the cake
walk. Ron Hunter was emcee for
the sixth consecutive year and is
already looking forward to next
year and more kids.
Larry Speelman won his annual
cake on the cake walk the first try.
He’s famous for his good luck at
the game! Kids played hoola hoop,
candy com bowhng, bean bag
basketball and there was a fish
pond. The only complaint was that
the party went too fast! Everyone
really did seem to have a great
time! I loved that it was in New
Bridge; the feel and the ambiance
is fabulous!
Line Dancing
Cindy Plano will be teaching
two classes of line dancing this
year. Starting on Thursday Nov. 5
at 3 p.m. at the New Bridge
Grange. There will be beginner’s
class and even if you want to sit in
a chair, use your cane or walker,
have never been tried line dancing
but want to give it a try, you are
encouraged to come and join in. At
4 p.m. those who are familiar with
line dancing will start and that
class will last for an hour as well.
There is no chatge and everyone is
welcome. Cindy said to come at
least once to see if you like it.
She’s sure you’ll want to come
again! Bring friends!
Charter School
Believe it or not, it is already the
end of the first Quarter on Thurs
day, Oct. 29. There will be an
Elementary Assembly at 2 p.m. on
Oct. 29 followed at 2:30 p.m. with
K-sixth grade Halloween parties.
That evening, there will be a Jr.
High Dance for sixth-eighth
grades from 6-8 p.m. in the high
school lobby.
Football divisional playoff will
be here in Halfway on Friday, no
time given.
Then on Saturday, the Jr. High
Basketball goes to North Powder
and plays at 10 a.m. That evening,
Oct. 31, in the Elementary Cafete
ria, the High School Varsity Foot
ball team will have a Spaghetti
Feed and Haunted House.
On Nov. 4- 5 there will be parent
student teacher conferences.
Ending
And yes, that ends this week's
news. Halloween is on Saturday,
and then we fall back with our
time at midnight. Let's end this
week with this thought - When
black cats prowl and pumpkins
gleam, may luck be yours on
Halloween. -Author Unknown

AT SETTLER’S PARK
You are cordially invited to
Linda Dixon
Greetings on this wonderful Oc
tober day. Sadly I will be missing
my usual dress up day at school. I
love dressing up as a witch and
going to school and visiting my
grandkids. I have green hair, and
black out my front teeth. I scared a
couple of them when they were
younger until J spoke to them. Bad
grandma. Now they expect it. But
I am enjoying the "Sisters Week"
in the Show Me State.
A big thank you to Delbert
Stephens farms for donating pota
toes for the potato bar at the school
this last week. It was wonderful.
Debra Bailey also prepared Plum
Coconut Milk Smoothie (aka
"Sweet Tart Smoothie). Several of
the elementary kids wanted sec
onds (or thirds) and the grown ups
liked it as well. Now will it pass die
middle and high school test-if they
even try it.
Boys Jr. High basketball practice
started this week. High school
football and volleyball going into
final weeks of playoffs, district and
state.
CTs country store has a new look
inside. A nice display of deh meats
and cheeses. Stop in and check it
out, CJ is also planning to put in a
drive thru window where you can
pull through and get anything ex
cept beer and alcohol products.
Kids could wear hats this week
if they brought a can of food. The
food drive is sponsored by the FFA
Vaccine Clinic Date Change
