This year's downtown Baker City trick-or-treating will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. Main Street will be closed from the south side of Church to the north side of Auburn from 4-6 p.m. As always, safety is a priority and Historic Baker City offers the following simple tips. Kerns Won't Run for Re-election Tim Kerns, Haines rancher and potato farmer who has served on the Baker County Board of Commissioners for several years since being appointed to finish the remainder of Paul York's term, announced last week that he will not seek re-election. The seat currently held by Kerns is Position One and is a four year term. The deadline to file is March 8, 2016 and the primary election will be held on May 19, 2016. Members of the three major parties, Democrat, Republican or Independent, inter­ ested in filing must have been a resident of Baker County for at least one year prior to the date of the election and must either pay a $50 filing fee or gather the required amount of sig­ natures which varies depending on the party. Democrats must gather 46 signatures, Re­ publicans 85, and Independents 500. Those in recognized minor parties have different re­ quirements and should contact the Baker County Clerk or the Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division with their questions. Everyone enjoyed the games, trunk-or-treat, cake walk, costume judging, and finger food at the event. When Coby Mastrude spoke, her statement expressed concerns from other parents. Mastrude's family is not considering moving out of the district. She was sharing sentiments of another parent.
