Kate Rohner, Dotty Miles, Beth Phillips and Myron Miles comprised the selection committee which chose Belveal. The steer is a black Angus and Simmental cross out of one of Cody's own cows. He exhibited the cow and calf as a pair at the Baker County Fair last year. Besides being a quality steer, he's also gentle which is very important given the task before the duo.
