Sandy Wood!
"Sandy Wood's volunteer work in the Haines commu
nity is far reaching and very positive. I don't think people
realize just how much she does. She exemplifies the
meaning of being a true community advocate," said Mary
Jane Guyer.
Sandy founded the Neighborhood Watch program in
Haines and has helped other communities get programs
established. She served as a City Council member for
years, and is a vital part of Friends of Haines. Just this
Saturday, she helped with a door-to-door Community
Census so that Haines can qualify for vital grant funding
to pay for a new mandated water system upgrade, sold
tickets at the Friends of Haines Steak Feed and Auction
fundraiser for the annual fireworks display, and then
performed her nightly tour for Neighborhood Watch. She
has served for years on the Local Public Safety Coordinat
ing Committee. At age 70 something, that's a busy
Saturday by anyone's standards!
For many years, Sandy took money and sold tickets for
the Fourth of July BBQ and is the first to volunteer to help
get any job done. Many Wednesdays, Sandy helps us here
at the Record-Courier insert the sale flyers in the weekly
paper.
Sandy Wood, you're amazing, appreciated and a
wonderful example!
