Sunday, March 3
*A fellow had a great excuse
for speeding; he was bringing
coffee to his wife at 10:44 a.m.
The good hubby line didn’t fly.
He was cited for failure to carry
proof of insurance, no operator’s
license, and driving 78 in a 55-
mph zone in the 1200 block of
Lakeshore Drive. He did get away
with a warning for failure to
register vehicle, no identification,
and for tow of vehicle.
*A silver-colored Ford Focus
was stolen when a farm was
burglarized in the 23200 block of
Redwood Hwy. The Focus was
totaled, with extensive damage
on the passenger side, and was
only worth $300 in scrap metal.
The owner wasn’t interested in
recovering the Ford, but wanted
the information included in the
burglary report.
Monday, March 4
*A bald guy in a tan parka
was “mean-mugging” customers
in the 100 block of Deer Creek
Road at 11:59 a.m. Gabriel Joseph
Hughes, 38, had a misdemeanor
warrant from Josephine County
for failure to appear for reckless
driving and driving under the
influence of intoxicants (DUII).
Hughes was cited and released
to appear April 4, but in the
meantime, he will need to find a
different grocery store.
*A fugitive with a Jackson
County misdemeanor warrant
was apprehended at 12:57 p.m.
in the 24000 block of Redwood
Hwy. Erin Ardelle Lyman,
35, was charged with reckless
driving and DUII, and cited to
appear in Jackson County Circuit
Court March 20.
*An individual on a mini-
bike was cruising very slowly
in the 1200 block of Waldo
Road at 1:19 p.m. The unique
vehicle was pieced together with
a silver-colored gas tank, and
a weed-eater powerhead for an
engine. The driver was warned
not to drive again, due to no
operator’s license, no insurance,
no vehicle registration, and an
unsafe vehicle. (At least he wasn’t
speeding.)
*Laurie Ann Houston, 54,
was arrested at 4:18 p.m. in the
600 block of S. Junction Avenue
for a misdemeanor warrant from
Grants Pass Department of Public
Safety (GPDPS). Houston was
charged with failure to appear for
second-degree theft and cited to
appear March 27.
Wednesday, March 6
Tuesday, March 5
*Joseph D. Ainsworth, 40,
was apprehended at 11:55 a.m.
in the 300 block of S. Redwood
Hwy. Ainsworth was detained
in Josephine County Jail (JCJ)
for probation violation detainer
and misdemeanor possession of
controlled substance (PCS).
*A citizen was concerned
about a guy with a scruffy beard
in a green Subaru Forester in
the 400 block of Caves Hwy.
at 7:37 a.m. He was coughing
and pounding on his chest and
seemed to be sick or intoxicated,
but he claimed he didn’t need
help.

*At 4:32 p.m. a chap was
“creeping out” customers in the
100 block of N. Redwood Hwy.
Thursday, March 7
*A realtor showed property
in the 600 block of Hummingbird
Road and discovered that all the
appliances were missing. The
woodstove, a propane heating
system, and two doors also
vanished. During a return visit,
they realized that the electric
service panel had been torn
from a pantry wall and the water
heater had been disconnected.
*The death of an individual
in the 5000 block of Rockydale
Road was reported at 8:05 p.m.
March 6.
*On March 6, a guy
‘bumped with’ an employee and
yelled at everyone in a store in
the 100 block of S. Redwood
Hwy. After he left, he posted
various awful Facebook reviews
with terrible grammar and
misspellings about every other
word. The Grammar Police
contacted Josephine County
Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) regarding
the incident, and want the man
trespassed from the store.

Spring Cleanup for Fire Safety
The snow has melted, the rain and wind is beginning to subside, the plants are
budding and the trees are blooming. Spring is arriving and your thoughts may be
turning to that dreaded ritual of spring cleaning. With it comes a timely reminder
to keep your home safe from the threat of fire. In an effort to make this "Spring
Cleanup" a fire safe one, Illinois Valley Fire District provides the following safety
tips:

Responded to these recent Emergency calls
Friday, March 8
*A red 1985 Toyota pickup
truck was stolen from Jubilee
Park at 12:56 p.m., but the owner
recovered his vehicle within an
hour.
*Southern Oregon Subaru
contacted Medford Police
Department regarding a brand
new 2019 Subaru Ascent. The
stolen Subaru was tracked by
GPS, and law enforcement
found the dirty vehicle behind
marijuana grows and greenhouses
in the 5300 block of Holland
Loop at 2:45 p.m. The Ascent
had license plates registered to a
Subaru Legacy that was totaled
November 2018.
Clean your garage of stored newspapers or other rubbish that can fuel a fire.
Test your smoke alarms monthly.
To help prevent nuisance alarms, gently vacuum your smoke alarm every six
months or as needed.
Change batteries in smoke alarms, flashlights and carbon monoxide detec-
tors.
Never borrow smoke alarm batteries to use for toys or other equipment.
Replace all smoke alarms every 10 years or as recommended by the manu-
facturer.
Keep outdoor debris or dead vegetation away from the house.
Properly dispose of oily or greasy rags. If these items must be stored, they
should be kept in labeled, sealed, metal containers.
If you store gasoline, keep it outside your home in a shed or detached garage.
Keep only small quantities in tightly sealed containers. Use gasoline only as
a motor fuel - never as a cleaning agent.
Use outdoor barbecue grills with caution. Place in a
safe area away from building, windows, heating,
ventilation and air conditioning units or places with
high/dead vegetation.
Never use gasoline to start the fire, and don't add
charcoal lighter fluid once the fire has started.
Use barbecue grills outside only - not under over-
hangs or balconies, and away from combustibles.
Check your propane barbecue grill hose for leaks and cracks; never store
propane indoors.
