Applications now available at the Guild
Gallery for Haines & Friends Fund Grants
Forms are now available at the
Southern Oregon Guild’s Gallery
and Art Center in Kerby for the 2018
Haines & Friends Fund Visual Arts
Grant Program.
The fund offers grants to
Southern Oregon artists and arts
educators in support of the creation of
artistic projects and/or art education,
which might include original and new
works of private and public art.
Use of grant funds may include,
but are not limited to, supplies,
equipment and expenses of the
artist and/or the education project.
Applicants should indicate how the
funds will improve his/her well-
being as a creative artist and/or how
the project may provide service to
members of the community (e.g.,
using art and/or education to help
victims of domestic violence, etc.).
Grant requests can range from
$1,000 to $5,000. Awards will
be announced by Oct. 15, 2018,
and awardees will be expected to
participate in an annual share event.
Help with the project design
and application is available from the
Guild.
Completed applications must be
delivered to the Guild no later than 5
p.m., Friday, July 20, 2018.

Library announces summer reading program

Lee also explained, “All
books are available from
all four Josephine County
Library Districts including
Illinois Valley, Grants Pass,
Williams and Wolf Creek. So
if you can’t find what you’re
looking for in one library
they are sure to have it in
another. All reading materials
are eligible toward earning
stickers including audiobooks
and comic books.” So make

“Libraries Rock!” is the
motto for the 2018 summer
reading program at the
Josephine County Library for
the Illinois Valley.
Music is incorporated
this year for a rocking
summer. All children, infants
through 12 years are invited
to participate. The reading
extravaganza starts Saturday,
June 23, and ends Saturday,
Aug. 4.
During the reading
program the library will
also have other activities for
the readers to enjoy such as
crafts, story time and a free
lunch. Plus, you can come by
and meet the Saint Bernard
service dog Romeo during
storytime at the last Saturday
of every month!
The weekly goal for
the children 0-9 is to read
five books, and the goal for
children10-12 years is to read
three chapter books. Each
child meeting their weekly
goal will receive a sticker
to add to their personalized
reading record. Every week
they will receive an additional
sticker until the end of the
program.
The last Saturday of
the program is special in that
every child who participated
can come and receive a
prize, whether they just
completed one week, or the
that await. For more
