Bud junction aims to educate
Jason McMillen
IVN Contributing Writer
Bud Junction, a
dispensary in Kerby that
sells both recreational and
medical cannabis products,
opened its doors Aug. 14
and aims to set the standard
of what a dispensary
should be to its customers,
employees, local
community, environment
and cannabis culture as a
whole. Kriss Williams, an
Idaho resident and owner
of Bud Junction, said
that he’s currently in the
process of making his store
an official Oregon Liquor
Control Commission
“example” for other
potential dispensary owners
to follow.
Eager to assist the
community wherever
possible, Bud Junction
offers a 20 percent discount
to local residents who can
prove that they live in the
area.
Williams, wanting
his business to be strongly
correlated with cannabis
related education,
makes a point to tutor
his staff rigorously. His
motivation for doing so
stems primarily from
his belief that there’s
still a lot of negative
stigma, possibly arising
from misinformation,
surrounding cannabis as it
comes out of prohibition.
To encourage people
to get their facts straight
and further their knowledge
of the plant, Bud Junction
hosts two weekly events
after which attendees can
claim a discount: Mentor
Mondays (15 percent) and
Take a Test Tuesdays (20
percent). Mentor Mondays
feature a lecture while Take
a Test Tuesday offers the
opportunity for those who
attended the lecture to take
a test on it for a further
discount.
Before founding
Bud Junction, Williams’
first foray into the
cannabis industry, he
owned a marketing
consultant service for
nearly 12 years. One
of his more noteworthy
accomplishments was his
involvement in bringing
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
to Idaho. After stepping
away from marketing, he
dove into the tech industry
with a good friend out of
California as his partner.
Now that the business is

self-sustaining, he had the
opportunity to move on to
other projects.
Williams got his
first taste of the cannabis
industry working as
a consultant for local
dispensaries in the Illinois
Valley. With his interest
piqued, he sat down with
his family, accountant, and
lawyer and decided to give
cannabis a shot.
“I always get really
excited about any new
industry,” Williams said,
“For example when
cellphones became really
popular I had a cellphone
store in Boise—same with
MMA.” Williams has plans
to open up 10 more stores
over the course of the next
five years, two of them in
Oregon. He also has plans
to buy a house in the area
so that he and his family
can more easily make
extended visits to his new
business.
In the future, Williams
would like to clean up and
level out the dispensary’s
property with the end goal
being an attached 10,000
square foot indoor grow
site. Although the grow
site would be primarily for
the commercial cultivation
of cannabis, Williams
would also like to have
public tours so that he can
further educate the public.
Williams, having already
gotten approval from
the OLCC, is currently
working with the county
to get the green light to
proceed.
