Tales from the Rural Patrol

Tuesday, July 11
*At 9:16 a.m. a gal requested
a welfare check because she hadn’t
heard from her sister and nephew who
live in the 2000 block of McMullen
Creek Road. She needed to tell them
of a death in the family. The nephew
was contacted at Wal-Mart, and he
explained that they were having issues
with internet and phone service.
*A black 2004 Dodge Neon was
reported as stolen overnight from Six
Mile Campground. The keys were in
the glove box. (Good place for them.)
*Unhappy campers were causing
a disturbance with their screaming
at Echo Beach Campground at
11:06 a.m. The fellow was cited into
Josephine County Circuit Court for
misdemeanor driving while his license
was suspended. His probation officer
advised that he needed to visit her
immediately, or she would issue a
warrant.
*A vehicle needed to be towed
after hitting a tree at MP 2 on Illinois
River Road at 11:53 a.m.
*A bicyclist was warned for
riding in the opposite lane of vehicle
traffic at 1:01 p.m. at 430 Caves Hwy.
*At 1:21 p.m. a chap with no
helmet was cruising through woods
near Lurline, Dogwood Lane, and
the 800 block of Caves Hwy. on a
green dirt bike with no license plates.
Jayton Spangler, 21, was detained in
Josephine County Jail following his
arrest at 1:36 p.m. for felony elude.
*On July 10 gas was stolen from
a vehicle parked in the 200 block of
Stevenson Street, and an unknown
foamy substance covered the car
windows.
*Neighbors in the 18200 block
of Redwood Hwy. did not appreciate
an annual celebration conducted on
July 8-9 by Sacred Medicinal Flower,
a marijuana dispensary in Selma. Loud
music and annoying flood lights were
the main concerns.
*A character was arrested at 305
S. Redwood Hwy. at 3:27 p.m.
*When a guy asked an individual
to leave Junction Inn property at 11:00,
the unwanted guest nearly clipped him
with a silver-colored Subaru. He will
not be leaving the lights on for the
trespasser.
*An ex-boyfriend allegedly
stole a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick from the
400 block of Addison Lane and was
driving it to Grants Pass at 3:57 p.m.
By 4:22 p.m., the Sidekick had been
returned and everything was peachy-
keen again.
Wednesday, July 12
*Brian Joseph Ferrandino, 41,
was arrested at 2:34 p.m. at 5398
Holland Loop. He was detained at
Josephine County Jail for fourth-
degree assault felony injury,
and fourth-degree assault felony
strangulation. Both crimes were
witnessed or perceived by their minor
child.
*A driver was cited for driving
with a suspended license at 2:07 p.m.
near N. Redwood Hwy. and E. River
Street. He was warned for failure to
carry registration and insurance.
*Passing on the left is not
encouraged, as a motorist learned
after being cited near Caves Hwy. and
Laurel Road at 2:25 p.m.
*James Charles Warner, 25,
was arrested in the 300 block of
S. Kerby Avenue at 4:30 p.m. on a
felony warrant from Josephine County
Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). Warner was
detained at Josephine County Jail
for failure to appear for possession
of heroin, fourth-degree assault,
strangulation, and second-degree
criminal mischief.
*At 5:50 p.m. a fugitive was
arrested near Dogwood Lane and
Caves Hwy. on a felony warrant from
Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety.
Dottie Greenlee, 30, was detained in
Josephine County Jail for possession
of meth.
*A lead-footed driver was cited
for speeding 62 in a 45 zone near
Laurel Road and Caves Hwy. at 5:48
p.m. He was warned for failure to
maintain lane, and failure to carry and
present.
Thursday, July 13
*A thin, shirtless guy in his late
30s was yelling at customers and
hitting the sign at O’Brien Country
Store at 10:45 a.m.
*At 11:42 a.m. a disoriented
fellow was yelling for help near the
green bridge at Eight Dollar River
Access. He said he walked from
Portland, and that the jail took his
shoes and made him pull off his
toenails. The lost soul was given a
courtesy ride to Cave Junction.
*A fugitive from Jackson County
was arrested at Little Falls Trailhead
Campground at 1:49 p.m. His getaway
driver, a heavy-set gal in a blue
swimsuit, eluded a deputy near the
Illinois River.
*A vehicle near Eight Dollar
Bridge displayed 2018 registration
stickers, but Dept. of Motor Vehicles
records showed they expired in July
2017. At 4:02 p.m. the driver was
cited for driving uninsured and altered
plates. The 2018 stickers were seized.
*At 4:11 p.m. it was reported
that an individual was causing a
disturbance, and many residents in
the 200 block of Ollis Road were
afraid of him. The caller was unsure
how or why this was happening. The
issue was tagged as beyond available
resources (BAR) by JCSO.
*A concerned citizen heard a
character doing drug deals from a
hotel room at 406 S. Redwood Hwy. at
5:31 p.m. Information was forwarded
to Rogue Area Drug Enforcement

Responded to these recent Emergency calls
(RADE).
Friday, July 14
*Law enforcement assistance
was requested at 9:09 a.m. due to a
belligerent couple camping with their
four children in the 18500 block of
Caves Hwy.
*Occupants of a motor home
were warned for trespassing on
Federal land near the East Fork of the
Illinois River at 11:40 a.m. Marion
Bush III, 24, was cited to appear at
Multnomah County Justice Center on
July 31 for a misdemeanor warrant for
second-degree trespass.
*A deer was stuck in a gate in the
4600 block of Holland Loop at 2:03
p.m., but escaped once it ‘herd’ that
law enforcement was on the way.
Saturday, July 15
*At 11:02 a.m. a gal came home
and found an intruder hiding in her
pantry in the 11000 block of Takilma
Road. She described him as in his
20s, 5-foot-11, 165 pounds, with dark
blond, short-shaved hair. He was not
carrying anything when he was last
seen running shirtless through a field.
*Slobs in a motor home were
warned for offensive littering at
their campsite at MP 2 on Eight
Dollar Road at 3:21 p.m. Fruit rinds,
paper, and beer bottles were strewn
everywhere.
*Jeremy Sorensen, 33, was
arrested, cited, and released for
misdemeanor driving with a revoked
license at 4:42 p.m. on Eight Dollar
Road.
*At 5:48 p.m. a clown driving
a silver-colored Ford Escape was
warned for allowing people to ride on
the exterior of his vehicle near River
Bench Campground.
Sunday, July 16
*A report was received at 10:08
p.m. July 15 of a hiker lost between
Lake Mountain Trail and Big Tree
Trail near Oregon Caves National

than usual to stay hydrated no mater where you are (even be-
fore you feel thirsty).

Monday, July 17
*At 9:20 a.m. a frustrated
resident in the 600 block of
Hummingbird Road sent a text to
JCSO reading “was just trespassing on
my property for the umpteenth time.
Please arrest his a$$ before I shoot
him.” A deputy promised to warn the
flighty visitor.
*On July 14 at 10 a.m., a fellow
walked out of Shop Smart without
paying for a box of wine and two
knives. (No corkscrew needed.)
Photos will be provided to JCSO for
identification.
*Disputes over easement rights
are making life difficult at a marijuana
grow site on landlocked property on
Rockydale Road. A land owner locked
a gate that is used to access four
properties. This is a civil issue, but
there are concerns if fire or medical
assistance is required.

Monument. Josephine County Search
and Rescue launched a ground mission
at 7 a.m. on July 16. Search operations
were suspended at 1:44 p.m. pending
new information.
*On July 15 at 1 p.m. a fellow’s
Chevy Blazer broke down in the
5900 block of Deer Creek Road. He
apparently figured that gave him
the right to stay there, but nearby
residents disagreed. When they asked
him to leave, he fired a .22 rifle into
the air. The Blazer was towed to an
abandoned BLM park further down
Deer Creek Road.
*There was a family feud in the
4200 block of Lakeshore Drive at 1:02
p.m.
*A fugitive was detained at 3:08
p.m. in a parking lot at 205 W. Watkins
Street. Cecil Wright III, 46, was cited
to appear for a Grants Pass Dept.
of Public Safety warrant for failure
to appear for misdemeanor driving
on a suspended license. Wright was
also cited for a warrant from Jackson
County for the same offense.
4 CHECK ON OTHERS: Young children and the elderly are
most at risk from extreme heat-related illnesses. Check on
those in most need of assistance during extreme heat. Do not
leave children unattended in vehicles!
