Secure Your Street From Property Crime...
In support of the newly formed Illinois Valley Community
Watch and Public Safety Outreach (IVCWPS) Cave Junction Pa-
trol will utilize our labor and resources to promote, organize, train,
equip and field volunteers for localized Neighborhood Watch/Pa-
trols within the City of Cave Junction.
IVCWPS is a community safety program spearheaded by
Dennis Hoke (IVFD Chief], Guenter Ambron [Ken Rose Watch],
Jimmy Evans [CJP] along with community leaders and neighbor-
hood watch captains. There are three basic goals to the outreach:
1. Develop a means to share information between Neighbor-
hood Watch groups.
2. Help current watch groups be more productive.
3. Help new individuals form a Neighborhood Watch.
For now, Cave Junction Patrol’s role is three-fold:
1. Help establish street captains throughout the City of Cave
Junction .
2. Equip our captains with the means to immediately report/
receive information with/from Cave Junction Patrol concerning
suspicious activity (property crime) in their area.
3. Provide training.
From our beginning Cave Junction Patrol realized that to be
truly effective in downtown and residential areas, we needed both
active participation from community residents within their respec-
tive neighborhoods as well as the ability to provide for what’s truly
required to lower property crimes in Cave Junction: overnight
service(s) in the absence of law enforcement coverage.
This is our effort to achieve these goals, and we hope you
join us in this community-wide effort to make our city and valley
safe—street by street, road by road.

the water. The boys wanted to be seen and
impress the girls, and the girls … well, same
thing.
It is coming a time of muscles for the
guys and curves for the girls, and fun watch-
ing for those who aren’t that curvy or muscu-
lar any more. Like Bert and Maizie. Maizie
looked over at her husband of 40-some years
and smiled.
“I can remember,” she whispered.
“There was a time,” he smiled and nod-

and these two lovers had found a nice patch
of shade near the tire swing tree where they
could sip iced tea and watch the youngsters.
The little kids were in the shallow
wading area, some in underwear, some in
none-derwear, and all of them squealing and
splashing. The kids who had turned 13 or 14,
however, waited their turns at the tire swing.
One by one they swung out, flashing in the
body and the gray hair and the wrinkles. She
saw the dark hair and the flashing eyes, and
the muscles that carried him out into space
and took him straight down into a cannonball
that got even the old folks wet.
And she reached over and took his
hand and he gave it a squeeze. There has
always been a lot of love at the old swimming
hole.

You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks
Ephesians 4:20-24 (NIV) You, however, did not come
to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were
taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You
were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off
your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the
new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holi-
ness.
Over the years as I have met and talked to people, I
have heard reoccurring themes. One of these “themes” is that
“It is too late for me to change. I’m set in my ways and can’t
do anything about it.” The truth is I have heard this from older
people, but also from relatively young ones also. I have listened
to them talk, but the conclusion a person comes to is simply
that they don’t want to change or don’t want to make the effort
to change.
Here is the reality of the situation: I have seen people
from young to old make drastic changes when the impetus was
great enough. Even though the change may have been very,
very difficult, these people instituted life-altering changes.
Let me give you some examples: “You have cancer (or some
other life-threatening disease)” – some people will change
every aspect of their lives to live longer. “You’ve been laid off
or terminated,” is a phrase that can certainly create changes
in our lives. One of the situations that I have seen bring huge
alterations in peoples’ lives is the effort made to escape a toxic
relationship. Years ago I had someone tell me that they had sold
most everything they owned, moved away, and left no forward-
ing address to escape their family.
Maybe the best I have seen is the change in peoples’
lives that comes after a salvation experience with Jesus, the
Messiah. The blessed part of that change is that they don’t have
to do it on their own, because God becomes their partner or
leader as they seek Him. Change is possible for everyone, and
more so for those who have the Spirit of God working in them.
Do you need to make changes in your life, if not for
your own sake, maybe for your children or grandchildren? Start
today! If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31b)
