Junior golf program loses a mainstay

The Illinois Valley junior golf
summer programs lost a faithful
volunteer last month.
Robert J. Muswieck, known
to junior golfers as “Bob,” spent
many summers coaching and
assisting the youngsters with their
golf game.
His love for the game of golf
will live on in the young students
he taught over the years, many of
whom are now involving their own
children in the junior golf program.
In honor of Muswieck’s
dedication to the program, the
Muswieck family, in collaboration
with the I.V. Golf Association
(IVGA), plans to host an adult/
junior golf tournament and
barbecue this summer.
All proceeds from the
tournament will benefit the junior
golf programs in the Illinois Valley.
Muswieck was very active in
the IVGA as both a volunteer and
as a competitor in the I.V. Men’s
Golf Club and the Twilight League.
The IVGA was established in
1975 and 10 years later, Muswieck
volunteered to help then - IVGA
golf pro Rex Denham with the
junior golf program.
Muswieck later led the
summer program and organized
teaching clinics, as well as the
season-ending tournament and
barbecue.
His son, David, said that
Muswieck especially enjoyed
handing out trophies to all
the children at the end of the
tournament. It is IVGA tradition
to give every child a trophy in
recognition of their participation.
Muswieck also coached the
Illinois Valley High School (IVHS)
girls’ golf team for many years.
After Denham retired, the
IVGA junior golf program was run
by Steve Lyons for several years
and it is now managed by Nathan
Pierce.
Last summer, during the
junior golf program’s banquet,
Muswieck was recognized for his
many years of service.
The junior golf program
routinely starts two weeks after the
end of the school year and runs for
seven weeks.
Students are divided into
three age groups: 5 to 7 year olds,
8 to 10 and 11 to 15.
During the first four weeks of
the season, each age group receives
training and the opportunity to use
the driving range, practice green
and the No. 9 hole.
The tournament takes place
during the fifth week and the
sixth week is a hiatus. The awards

Search underway for man, 22, missing
since June 4. Search and Rescue volunteers
are actively looking for a missing Cave
Junction resident, overdue since Saturday,
June 5, said Josephine County Sheriff’s
office (JCSO). Reported missing is Domingo
Ramirez, 22. He last was seen on June 4, when
he left for a day trip to Kelly Lake in-between
Bolan Lake and Happy Camp, Calif. He has
not been heard from since, said JCSO. His car
is missing, but his dog was located at Page Mt.
Snow Park, which is about 12 miles north of

Bolan Lake. There is an unconfirmed report
that the dog had been shot, but that it was
still alive. Ramirez is 5-foot-9, 135 pounds
with black hair and brown eyes. His vehicle
is a dark-colored, possibly burgundy 1997
Oldsmobile Bravada with Oregon license
