Continued from A-7 Saturday, Dec. 10 *Cannaguard Security reported an alarm on the main gate in the 5000 block of Waldo Road at 11:29 a.m. *Two packs of vitamin D from the White City Veterans Administration were taken from a mailbox in the 200 block of Old Stage Road between Nov. 23 - Nov. 25. *A family feud and assault was reported at 3:45 p.m. in the 12400 block of Redwood Hwy. There was no crime involved in their argument regarding a gallon of milk. (No use crying over it.) *A guy was messing with the gas pump at a closed service station in the 18300 block of Redwood Hwy. at 6:06 p.m. He was wearing a green parka, holding a flashlight, and may have been trying to cut the gas hoses. When law enforcement arrived, he was gone and there was no damage to the pumps or hoses. Outside the Valley *Thirteen items. Sunday, Dec. 11 *JCSO received a call at 9:10 a.m. stating that “one of the local thieves” was sleeping outside the Illinois Valley Fire Headquarters at 681 Caves Hwy. The caller was worried about sending a firefighter to roust the slumbering soul. Luke Combs was detained at Josephine County Jail on charges from a different call. *Squatters associated with a specific pickup truck were paid a visit by a deputy at 9:56 a.m. in the Eight Dollar area. They have been warned regarding residing on federal land and given until Dec. 12 to move. They were also cautioned regarding possession of marijuana on federal land. *A hoodlum was running from S. Caves Avenue, down Caves Hwy. towards Redwood Hwy. at 10:23 a.m. A deputy detained him in the 300 block of Redwood Hwy. The sprinter was suspected of theft from Shop Smart. *A 911-call came in from Shop Smart at 10:27 a.m., but it was just a misdial from a shopper. *Language barriers created communication problems regarding a domestic violence situation in the 700 block of Robinson Corner Road at 12:07 p.m. A conference call with Language Link interpreters clarified the incident. A report was filed for fourth-degree domestic assault and strangulation. *A 911-call was received from the 200 block of N. Old Stage Road at 12:44 p.m. There was no disturbance heard, only voices and someone moving around. *Another 911-call came in from the 200 block of N. Old Stage Road at 3:40 p.m. This time it sounded like they were moving furniture, due to the banging sounds heard. *Two or three people were fighting in a room and the parking lot of the Junction Inn at 5:35 p.m. One guy left in a green Dodge Durango with a red cab. There were differing stories on who was injured, but no one wanted to pursue harassment charges. Caves opens application process for 2017 season Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve (ORCA) is currently accepting applications between Dec. 12 and Dec. 20 only for park guide positions for the 2017 season. Minimum qualifications for park guides (GS4) include at least six months experience in a job that requires communicating with the public, combined with six college units of geology, biology, natural resources, natural history or similar. Park guides will be responsible for leading at least three cave tours per day interacting with the public. The tour has 500 steps, with a climb of 230 feet. The lowest passageway is 45 inches. There is never an application fee to apply for a government or U.S. Postal Service job. Salary for a GS4 position starts at $14.45 per hour. To apply, go to www.USAjobs.gov.
