Tales from the Rural Patrol

Sunday, July 24
* Josephine County Sheriff’s
Office (JCSO) and Oregon State
Police (OSP) followed a group of
riders to MP33 on Hwy. 199 and
there were no traffic violations
observed at 10:19 a.m. (BLM
equals Bikers’ lives matter.)
*Jubilee Park was patrolled at
10:48 a.m.
*JCSO inspected a vacant
house in the 200 block of Honeybee
Lane at 11 a.m. following a report
from a concerned citizen. The panel
was bent but the hot water heater
was intact, and the residence was
secure.
*A motorist was warned for
failure to signal a left turn on W.
Lister Street and S. Kerby Avenue
at 11:42 a.m. Joseph Winslow, 48,
was cited to appear for driving
while his license was revoked.
*At 12:34 p.m. a motorist
at 306 Schumacher Street was
cited for driving with a suspended
license, driving while uninsured
and illegal display of license plates.
The expired plates were seized, and
the car will be towed if it is driven
illegally again.
*A tall, thin, tattooed drug user
in a tie dye shirt was trying to get
into a house in the 600 block of S.
Junction Avenue at 1:39 p.m. The
situation was resolved.
*An evil person was choking
a woman in the 300 block of
Clear Creek Road at 2:40 p.m.
When she tried to call for help, he
broke the phone. James William
Traughber Jr., 47, was detained at
Josephine County Jail for domestic
harassment, menacing, fourth-
degree assault and strangulation.
*At 2:42 a wacky woman
trespasser who seemed very
disturbed would not leave the
400 block of E. River Street. The
last time she was in custody, she
assaulted jail staff. She was gone
when law enforcement arrived.
*The lead-foot who was
driving on Redwood Hwy. at
Lakeshore Drive at 4:02 p.m. was
warned for speeding and failure to
maintain lane.
*Another motorist was pulled
over at 4:13 p.m. on Redwood Hwy.
at Deer Creek Road.
*Two people were warned for
not wearing their seatbelts on the
Illinois River Road near Kerby Flat
at 4:46 p.m.
*Photos were taken of illegally
parked vehicles near Diver’s Hole
at 5:36 p.m., and citations were
placed under the windshield wipers.

*Twenty-five situations.
Monday, July 25
*A renter in the 28000 block
of Redwood Hwy. was not happy
with evicted neighbors who used
the property like a shooting range or
a junk yard.
*Money, jewelry, tools, a
computer, telephones, and quite
a bit of merchandise was missing
following a weekend heist from the
Illinois Valley Senior Thrift Store at
201 S. Redwood Hwy. The brazen
burglars even stole the safe. A
report was filed for second-degree
burglary, first-degree theft and
first-degree mischief. (Ripping off
seniors, how courageous.)
*A man thought that an
employee for a tree service
burglarized his shop when they
were taking down trees in the 100
block of Bonanza Drive on July
22. He suspects his Stihl Farm
Boss chain saw was stolen, then
the sneak closed up the case so it
wouldn’t look like the saw was
missing. An 1896 Colt 45 pistol
also disappeared. A report will be
filed for second-degree burglary and
first-degree theft.
*The trigger-happy menace in
the 8800 block of Deer Creek Road
is not endearing himself to residents
of the area. He is reportedly firing
hundreds of rounds from high-
caliber weapons into the forest and
rocky hillside. Neighbors are very
concerned with the high heat and
fire danger.
*A motorhome with S.
Carolina license plates was pulling
a Jeep on Redwood Hwy. at Golf
Club Drive at 10:47 a.m. The
driver was cited into CJ Municipal
Court and advised of an upcoming
suspension Aug. 1.
*At 11:12 a.m. the owners of
a disabled Toyota said they would
return for their vehicle at 22633
Redwood Hwy.
*JCSO was flagged down at
Ollis Road and W. River Street at
12:03 p.m.
*A landlord’s life was
threatened when he tried to evict his
tenant in the 3700 block of Holland
Loop, so he went to City Hall at
3:47 p.m. to await deputy contact.
He will post a 72-hour notice, then
follow up with the civil division if
necessary.
*At 4:03 p.m., a woman in the
200 block of W. River Street found
a note on her car stating “is about
to get your house burned down so
better send him to pay.” She has no
idea who might have left the note
about her friend, but she suspects
it could have been regarding
drugs. She is now in the process of
evicting her housemate. (Cheaper
than buying more fire insurance.)
* Katherine Joann Coker, 32
was cited and released for warrants
at 4:40 p.m. at 205 W. Watkins
Street. She will appear before CJ
Municipal Court for driving with a
suspended license, and to Josephine
County Circuit Courts on warrants
to appear.
*Neighbors yelled to each
other to phone for law enforcement
in the 24000 block of Redwood
Hwy. at 5 p.m. The trespasser had
traipsed away by the time help
arrived.

*A van driver backed out of
a parking space at Speedy Mart
without looking at 3:29 p.m. She
behaved oddly before leaving the
scene of the accident.
*Two fugitives were arrested
on warrants and detained in the
Josephine County Jail following an
investigation in the 300 block of
Pinewood Way. JCSO tracked down
Breanna Schiszler, 20, on a warrant
for eluding police, and her partner-
in-crime Kyle Matthew Nelson, 25,
was detained for parole violation.

*An unnamed woman was
wearing a blue baseball hat, white
T-shirt and dark gray sweatpants
when she was spotted at Jubilee
Park at 11:20 a.m. The fashionista
left the park before JCSO arrived.
*Traffic was backed up from
Sauer’s Flat to Pugetville due to an
accident involving two vehicles at
MP 27 on Hwy. 199 at 11:42 a.m.
*JCSO drove to the top
of Greenview Drive for an
investigation for the district
attorney’s office at 12:29 p.m.
*A deputy was stationed south
of Rough and Ready Creek at 1:40
p.m.
*There was an unoccupied
vehicle missing a front tire behind
a store in the 25000 block of
Redwood Hwy. at 2:23 p.m. It could
not be towed as a hazard because
the roads were closed.
*Two purses were stolen from
a car at the Six Mile Recreation
Site, past Store Gulch at 3:10 p.m.
A helpful bystander found one
handbag, and placed it in his car for
safekeeping. He then took deputies
to where he spotted the purse. The
other bag, ID and a Wells Fargo
*The dispatcher heard people
working during a 911 hang-up call
from the 6400 block of Takilma
Road at 9:08 a.m., but there was no
problem.
*OSP responded to a report of
a deer that needed to be dispatched
in the ditch along Redwood Hwy. at
Laurel Road at 10:59 a.m.
*The 911 call from the 100
block of Elwood Lane at 1:26 p.m.
was a mistake, they didn’t mean to
dial that number.
* At 3:48 p.m. law
enforcement experienced difficulty
in serving a restraining order to
an address on Walters Drive that
required a 4x4 vehicle for access.

*Fourteen incidents.
Thursday, July 28
*SOS reported an alarm in the
200 block of Myrtlewood Drive at
11:52 a.m.
*JCSO cruised up to Bolan
Lake at 12:10 p.m.
*Several alarms were triggered
in the 21200 block of Redwood
Hwy. at 12:12 p.m.
