Tales from the Rural Patrol
of S. Redwood Hwy. at 3:39 p.m. It
did not turn out to be a match to the
vehicle which was reported stolen
earlier that day.
*At 4:31 p.m., there was an
older Suburban or Bronco being
driven by a man who looked to be
Native American and who may have
been intoxicated. His blue SUV
came across the traffic lane in the
500 block of W. River Street, then
ran into a ditch and back up from
the gully into the roadway. Oregon
State Police (OSP) were not in the
area to witness this unique piloting
technique.
(Editor’s note: Factual information
for ‘Tales’ is provided by official law
enforcement agencies. All persons listed
are innocent until proven guilty in a
court of law. Charges can be amended
or dismissed.)

Monday, May 30
*A pickup truck was stolen
from the parking lot of the Lorna
Byrne Middle School in the 100
block of N. Junction Avenue
between 1 and 9 a.m. The Chevy S-
10 is blue-gray colored with red pin
stripes. There was a possible lead
from a posting on the Facebook
site “To Catch a Thief.” A report
was filed for Unauthorized Use of a
Vehicle (UUV).
*At 1:16 p.m., a motorcyclist
was stopped on Redwood Hwy. at
Rockydale Road. He was cited for
no operator’s license, no helmet and
no insurance. He was also warned
for failure to display license plate,
and failure to use a headlight when
required.
*Attempts to locate a criminal
were successful in the 200 block
of Burch Drive. At 4:28 p.m.,
Ronald Jedediah Fehlhaber, 31,
was arrested for five charges of
unlawful use of a firearm, reckless
endangering, disorderly conduct
and felon in possession of a firearm.
Fehlhaber was cited to appear in
Multnomah County Circuit Court
on a no-bail warrant charging
fourth-degree assault.
*A vehicle with large orange
lights on top was reportedly
crossing over the white and yellow
lines along Redwood Highway,
through Sauers Flat and past
Kerbyville Farms at 2:44 p.m.
*Jubilee Park was patrolled at
3:02 p.m.
*Kaleb J. Bartee, 46, must
be walking slower these days.
Bartee was arrested and charged for
failure to appear on third-degree
escape, second-degree disorderly
conduct and second-degree criminal
trespass. He was detained at the
Josephine County Jail at 5:51 p.m.
*A car that may have been
stolen was located in the 500 block
Outside the Valley
*Thirty-four calls logged.
Tuesday, May 31
*The area near the 300 block
of Cascade Drive was patrolled
at 11:10 a.m., and apparently
everything was fine.
*Nothing turned up during a
patrol of the Fernwood Drive and
Sherier Road area at 11:46 a.m.
*Vehicle Identification
Numbers (VIN) were inspected by
law enforcement before vehicles
were crushed in the 29900 block of
Redwood Hwy. at 12:52 p.m.
*A U-Haul company
(somewhere in Josephine County)
was told that one of their clients
had been involved in a fatal ATV
crash in Grants Pass, and that their
rented U-Haul truck was near where
the fatality occurred. Assistance
is needed in locating the white-
colored GMC Sierra with Arizona
license plates. None of the law
enforcement agencies in Douglas,
Josephine or Jackson counties
have priors with the subject or the
vehicle. The accident allegedly
occurred on Thursday or Friday, and
the U-Haul customer was said to
have died either Friday or Saturday
morning from injuries sustained in
the crash.
*A restraining order was
served to a deserving party in the
100 block of Holton Creek Road at
2:10 p.m.
*Something happened in
the 200 block of Ollis Road at
2:19 p.m., but there was no data
provided.
*A property owner in the 500
block of Schumacher Street was
advised that she was in violation
due to people living in a trailer on
her property. Personnel from the
City Hall of Cave Junction will be
posting a notice that the trailer must
be removed within 72 hours, or she
will be cited.
Outside the Valley
*Twenty situations.
Wednesday, June 1
*A woman was wandering
around the Rogue Community
College (RCC) Campus in Kerby,
then sitting across the street at
Kerby Mart at 11:01 a.m. She didn’t
seem to be a problem because she
was walking well and quickly.
*At 1:07 p.m., a dude was
walking his dog near milepost 28
on Hwy. 199. Along came a gray-
colored Toyota, which stopped, and
the male occupant threatened the
dog-walker with a gun.
*A woman was transported
by American Medical Response
following a motor vehicle accident
at 1:12 p.m. on Redwood Hwy. at
Turnagain Drive. (That must be
confusing to give directions. Where
is the address? Turnagain. Turn
where? On Turnagain.)
*Driving with temporary
tags and no license plates drew
attention in the 300 block of S.
Redwood Hwy., since the tags
expired in 2014. Failing to signal
probably didn’t help either. The
procrastinator was cited into Cave
Junction Municipal Court for
driving on a suspended license
(DWS), and improper display.
Thursday, June 2
*No calls from Illinois Valley
today! (Remember when things
were too quiet, and you just knew
the kids were up to something?)
Outside the Valley
*Eighteen incidents.

buttons.

possession of marijuana at 2:59

THE ALARM?
Illinois Valley Fire District
Friday, June 3
*A dog was swept up in
rushing whitewater in a narrow
canyon at the Little Falls Trailhead
Campground at 12:54 p.m. The
black lab was 20 to30 yards on the
other side of the river, laying in a
shallow pool. Law enforcement did
not have anyone available who was
certified for water rescue. A call
came through at 1:28 p.m. that the
Labrador had been retrieved.
*Josephine County Sheriff’s
Office (JCSO) provided Community
Oriented Policing (COP) for the
First Community Credit Union at
1:02 p.m.
*For the driver of the
gray-colored Nissan Sedan with
California license plates, heading
southbound on Highway 199 at 2:18
p.m. – you are not supposed to pass
a school bus with the stop sign out.
That’s why it says “stop.”
*There was a log for
something at 2:47 p.m. at Redwood
Hwy. and Draper Valley Road, but
the note just says “north.” And
whatever it was lasted for twelve
minutes.
Sunday, June 5
*At 9:29 a.m. a resident in
the 400 block of Beebe Drive
phoned 911 because her neighbor
was shooting firearms. She was
understandably concerned because
that same neighbor shot her
husband two days before, so the
ongoing loud shots and explosions
were unnerving. The information

*Four rowdy people were
raising a ruckus near the Dryden
Bridge over Deer Creek in Selma.
Folks living in that area were
concerned for their safety because
although the nuisance problem was
typical in summers in the past, this
was the first time that gun shots
became an issue.
*Two suspects were
apprehended in the 300 block of
S. Caves Avenue at 10:10 a.m.,
and one was detained, although his
name was not listed in the logs.
Checkbooks from burglary victims
on Caves Hwy. and Shadowbrook
Drive were in the possession of one
of the thieves. The charges against
the bad guy included first-degree
attempted burglary, strangulation,
fourth-degree assault, harassment
and unauthorized use of a motor
vehicle. Wait, there’s still more. He
was also detained for possession
of heroin and first-degree burglary.
(Other than that, surely he is a great
guy, probably just misunderstood.)
*Airport Drive and Seats Dam
were patrolled at 10:44 a.m.
*The Department of Motor
Vehicles (DMV) notified law

in the 24500 block of Redwood
