Falkstein: This fire burned into the
Marble Mountain Wilderness, and produced
three small spot fires that established in Grider
Valley southeast of the fire. Firefighters are
scouting the fire to identify and establish loca-
tions for possible containment lines.
Kemper: Firefighters have begun holding
and securing the fire lines.
Fire Behavior: Fires will continue to dis-
play moderate rates of spread. They continue
to back towards drainages and retain heat. Up-
hill runs are predicted as fires align with slopes
and wind. The potential for single and group
tree torching will remain a threat due to ladder
fuels beneath the canopy being pre-heated
by ground fire. Roll-out of burning material
remains a challenge to containment efforts and
has led to the growth of fires.
Weather Conditions: Temperatures will
be a few degrees cooler under more stable
conditions. Day time winds will be from the
north and will align with north south drainages
on the Frying Pan and Falkstein fires. Despite

at approximately 5:00 p.m.
Safety: Vehicle traffic along Highway 96
remains a significant risk to the firefighters and
community members. Please slow down, limit
distractions, and help keep everyone safe when
you are driving through the area.
A Clean Air Respite Center is available
at the Karuk Tribe Senior Nutrition Center,
located at 64101 Second Avenue in Happy
Camp. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
daily and will remain open longer if needed

To volunteer for the Adopt-a-Park program,
call the IVCDO office at 541-592-4440 or drop into
the I.V. Visitor Center where the office is located.
According to OPRD District Manager Ross
Kihs, “Oregon Parks and Recreation Department
utilizes a vast number of volunteers and simply
couldn’t maintain Oregon’s parks without them. In
the longstanding tradition of utilizing volunteers
as park ambassadors or hosts we thought we could
improve maintenance and visitor services by hav-
ing a live-in host at Illinois River Forks State Park.
Because we match what volunteers want to do with
potential geographic areas of interest we can’t al-
ways guarantee a host will be at IRF, but it’s our
intent to try as much as possible.”

Some problems have occurred at IRF, such
as recent complaints by construction crews about
attempted break-ins and damage to lawns by indi-
viduals “spinning donuts” with vehicles during eve-
ning hours.
“I don’t think these sorts of thing are rampant
problems,” Brandt said. “I have talked to hundreds
of people at the park during surveys over the past
two years and have only met people who enjoy be-
ing in outdoor settings and are mostly families tak-
ing children for a swim in the river, senior citizens

walking dogs, or groups picnicking.”
Brand noted that following the bridge recon-
struction about five years ago, residents in Cave
Junction can safely walk or ride a bicycle to the
park using the new sidewalk.
“The presence of a park host and other park
improvements will make this a safe and outstand-
ing recreational destination for residents who are
interested in walking or riding their bicycles for ex-
ercise,” he said. “Cave Junction is one of the few
towns in Oregon that has a state park located next
door and this gives this community a unique quality
of life value that few communities in Oregon can
claim.”

Stanton’s musical education began
at age 5. He studied briefly in his
early years at the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music and later
studied privately for several
years with composer and pianist
Julian Maurice White. Later he
enrolled in Piano Performance
and Composition at San Francisco
State University with William
Corbet Jones in addition to Master
classes with Karl Ulrich Schnabel
and private sessions with world
renowned composer and pianist
Robert Helps.
Stanton’s performing
experience spans 30 years in both
contemporary and classical music
in venues throughout the western
United States and Europe. With
music influenced by such artists
as Chopin, Debussy, The Beatles,
Jean Luc Ponti and a host of
others; Stanton has orchestrated
arrangements that have been
called Smooth Jazz, Modern
Classical and New Age. Notable
performances include events with
Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers,
Miles Davis, and Mickey Thomas
of the band Jefferson Starship.
