This week, I did a “word on the
street” feature. Most of the people
I spoke to said they were happy but
concerned about us “celebrating” Bin
Laden’s killing.
Each of us, individually, must ask
ourselves if we feel the celebration was
appropriate. There is no right or wrong
answer, but we should be okay with
whatever it is. As for myself, I don’t
feel good about being happy, yet I am,
I think.
Thanks for picking up this week’s

happy with the events of September

this behavior how we want to be seen

Several candidates are running for Illinois
Valley Fire Protection District and Three Rivers
School District board positions in the upcoming
May 17 special election.
The Josephine County Voter’s Pamphlet
outlines the Valley candidates and their
credentials for positions 1, 4 and 5 on the Fire
Board and Zone 2 and 4 on the Three Rivers
School District board. Following information is
included in the pamphlet:
For the I.V. Fire District, Richard R.
Bouchard and Jerry Lamb are running for Fire
Board Position 4, a four-year term. Bouchard
works as delivery driver and salesperson at
Fields Home Center and has also worked at IV
Building Supply.
Lamb owns Lamb’s Body Shop and
reportedly served on the Volunteer Fire District
in Cave Junction in 1975, along with the CJ
police department reserve.
James Minervini will run unopposed for
Fire Board position 1, a two-year unexpired
term. Minervini is a chiropractic doctor and
currently serves on the IV Fire board.
For the four-year Position 5 term, Edwin
“Bob” Butler and Bill Waggoner are the two
candidates. Butler is a retired firefighter engineer
and has been a Fire District board member for
12 years. Waggoner moved to Selma in 1972
and volunteered with the IV Fire Department
shortly thereafter.
Three candidates are running for the Three
Rivers school board in Zone 4, including Ron
Crume, Margaret Duncan and Dave Strahan.
Crume is self-employed owner of R. Crume
Construction, saying he hopes to preserve
vocational classes and offer his experience
running a business.
Duncan is a seamstress who reportedly
has worked in electronic assembly and
school bus driver, hoping to be a voice of
parents, grandparents and students. Strahan
has governmental experience in the Dept. of
Fish and Wildlife and various Three Rivers
committees, hoping to build on previous terms
on the school board.
Jim Weaver and Jadd Horban are running
for the Zone 2 spot; Weaver has 30 years
background in computer programming and has
been on the school board since 2002. Horban
is owner of an auto body shop supply business
and has been a police officer and community
service officer.
According to the voter’s pamphlet, ballots
can be returned by mail or by drop-off in Cave
Junction at City Hall on Lister Street near the
front entrance. Mail ballots to Art Harvey,
Josephine County Clerk and Recorder, P.O.
Box 69, Grants Pass, Ore. 97528.

We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you for
all who supported us during our recent times of
difficulty and loss. We appreciate the practical,
emotional and spiritual help with Cathy’s
broken hip and Perry’s illness and passing. The
support we received from Redwood Dialysis,
the companies and individuals who provided
transportation, Highland House, doctors and
medical staff, Three Rivers Home Health Care,
Three Rivers Hospital, Lovejoy Hospice, The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and
the many neighbors, friends and family members
lightened our burdens, comforted our hurts, and
has given us encouragement for the next part of
our journey. May you be blessed for the blessings
you’ve given.
