City recognizes Public Safety
Telecommunications Week
By Darcy Wallace
IVN Staff Writer
As winter finally seems to re-
treat from the Valley, local organiza-
tions are taking the first steps towards
summer with requests to the City of
Cave Junction for park use and proj-
ects.
At the City Council meeting
Monday, April 11, councilors also
voted 5-0 in a proclamation to rec-
ognize National Public Safety Tele-
communications Week from April 10
to April 16, as recently declared by
Congress.
The proclamation seeks to honor
the 911 responders who help connect
residents with emergency personnel
during a crisis.
According to the document,
public safety telecommunications
serve the public in many ways with-
out much recognition, dispatching the
assistance that saves lives.
“…the safety of our law enforce-
ment, firefighters and paramedics is
dependent upon the quality and ac-
curacy of information obtained from
citizens who telephone the Josephine
County 911 Agency,” the proclama-
tion reads.
Illinois Valley Lions Club board
member Harry Johnson also request-
ed a permit for amplified music and
alcohol sale along with the use of
Jubilee Park for the upcoming Labor
Day Festival from Friday, Sept. 3 to
Monday, Sept. 5.
Council member Margaret
Miller said the Labor Day Festival is
a major event in Cave Junction, and
advocated support of the event going
into its 39th year.
Councilors unanimously ap-
proved the permit, which in John-
son’s request will also close Junction
Ave. as part of the Tough Truck races
during Labor Day festivities. Johnson
also said Lions Club members would
work to fully clean up the park and
surrounding areas by no later than
Sept. 9 after the festival.
Next, the council reviewed a
request from the Chamber of Com-
merce to use amplified sound for
Concerts in the Park in Jubilee Park
to be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June
23 and 30, continuing each Thursday
in July, and ending Thursday, August
4.
Again agreeing on the impor-
tance of the event for community
members, the Council approved the
request 5-0.
In public comment, resi-
dent Ann Padgett told the Coun-
cil she had planned a cleanup
day around downtown Cave
Junction April 30 from 9 a.m. to
12 p.m. and was looking for vol-
unteers to help remove weeds,
litter and generally improve aes-
thetics.
Though council members
worried volunteers may need
safety vests for working along
the Redwood Hwy, they agreed
with the cleanup idea and said
that until now no one had come
forward to formally organize
a cleanup project in downtown
Cave Junction.
“I was tired of hearing
complaints about [downtown],
so finally I thought, ‘let’s just do it,’”
Padgett said.

Perpetua. And I can now say
thanks to Perpetua for being
willing and available to meet
the needs of their community,
as good neighbors, good stew-
ards of the land and for under-
standing that it’s not always
just about profit. Thank you
dearly Jennifer and for your
foresters.
To all fellow citizens, hon-
orable country folk and land
owners: We need each other
to stand up for our inalienable
rights. This is my message and
one I believe that the found-
ing Fathers and Mothers of our
great country would sound.
Let us bring to the top our
need to treat each other with
respect for our god given
freedoms, right to equality,
and our obligation to stand
up against injustice. Let us
restore the practice of the
precautionary principle. If in
doubt do with out. We owe it to
our children to leave them with
a clean non toxic environment.
Isn’t that why so many of us
moved here in the first place
and what we want to pass on
to our kids.

My fellow citizens and
fellow country men, women
and children and our valuable
servants in government.
May your health and the
prosperity of our future be
with us, and all our means to
achieve it - Together, we stand
united.
May your day be all it can
be and find you smiling back
at it.
And blessings to all of cre-

Pray for the
Pedestrians
I just received word that
several people are going to fix
up the crosswalk when they
have the time.
But we must still pray
about the crosswalk, that ev-
erything will be okay. So when
you cross the highway be care-
ful because, as I’ve said, it
only takes one time for some-
thing bad to happen, and it’s
all over.

Passover or Easter
– Which?
Do you know? Anciently,
Easter was named after a Bab-
ylonian goddess named Ishtor
– the “Queen of Heaven”.
The ancient pagans would
face the East as they would
await the rising of the sun,
which was and still is the chief
symbol of Baal (Satan wor-
ship).
In 155 A.D., that pagan
sunrise festival was renamed
by the Anglo-Saxons in honor
of a different pagan goddess
named Eostra, the “Goddess
of the Dawn”.
In 325 A.D., a controversy
arose between the Catholic
Church and the Greek Ortho-
dox Church on whether to cel-

ebrate the festival on the “Day
of the Sun” as did the earlier
pagans or on the dates of the
Jewish Passover.
Unfortu-
nately, the Catholics contend-
ed that keeping Eostra on the
“Sun Day” would stimulate
and improve the overall Fel-
lowship between the “Chris-
tian” world and pagan wor-
shipers. As it was then, so it is
today. Today’s “Christianity”
is riddled with paganism, such
as Trinity worship, Sunday
worship, immortality of the
soul, etc. And, as a result of
the practice of Asherah/Eostra
worship then, society today
now observes the celebration
of Easter, which is a counter-
feit and pagan holiday, instead
of the Passover, which was in-
stituted in the Bible and com-
pleted in the New Testament
when Jesus died on the cross
as our Passover Lamb. “For in-
deed, Christ, our Passover, was
sacrificed for us” 1 Cor.5:7.
The “Sign of Loyalty”
between God and man is
in keeping holy his 7th day
Sabbath, Ezekiel 20:12,20;
Eccl.12:13. The “Sign of
Loyalty” to Baal (Satan) is
“Sun Day” worship – Ezekial
8:16; 2 Kings 23:5; Rev. 13:3,
4 (Easter Sunrise). Worship
while facing the sun is the
worse kind of abomination
against the Lord God; it is the
worse kind of sin and He hates
it; it is idolatry – Galations
5:19,20.
Which direction will you
be facing during Easter morn-
ing sunrise?

What a great community!
Several more individuals have
stepped forward and our re-
ward amount now stands at
$750 for information leading
to the arrest and conviction of
the vandals who destroyed the
West Fork trailhead and stole
the picnic tables and redwood
benches. If you would like to
donate to this reward fund to
bring these punks to justice,
please contact the IVCDO,
592-4440.
If anyone has seen these
unique redwood benches and
cedar picnic tables or has heard
talk about this act of vandal-
ism, please notify the Sheriff’s
office, Case #2011-2812, 541-
474-5123 Ext. 5. Any piece of
information on this vandalism,
no matter how small you think
it is, may be the break in this
investigation.
This vandalism was an
act against all of us in Cave
Junction. Help stop this kind
of criminal activity by getting
involved and letting our Sher-
iff’s office know.

Year Round
Campaigning?!?!
May I simply point out that
a certain candidate had signs
up months in advance of the
last election, which is illegal.
Some of them, as well as some
other candidates’ signs, are still
up. This is also illegal, not to
mention a pathetic eye sore.
Regardless of whether
your candidate won or lost,
the election is long since over.
Please, take these signs down,
now.
Thank you.

Guest Column:
The Sheriff speaks out
In response
to the recent
letter to the
editor from
Rycke Brown,
I would like to
clarify incor-
rect informa-
tion. Animal
Protection &
Regulation
(commonly
known as Ani-
mal Control),
by order of the
County Com-
missioners, is
not a part of
the Sheriff’s
Office
but
rather a division of Public
Health that has the indepen-
dent authority and responsibil-
ity of enforcement relevant to
animal issues.
In the state of Oregon, it
is legal to use deadly force
to protect a human life and to
shoot an animal attacking your
livestock. I encourage anyone
to call my office, and file a
complaint against any deputy
who recklessly advises a citi-
zen to shoot animals. I also
encourage Ms. Brown to con-
tact the Sheriff’s Office with
specific details contrary to my
letter.
Anyone with an animal
complaint can call the Jose-
phine County Animal Protec-
tion & Regulation office at
541-474-5458.
Her assertion that we only
deal with “revenue-chasing”
crimes is not accurate either.
Since 2007, the Sheriff’s Of-
fice has decreased property
crimes by 27% and reduced
fatal car accidents by 49%, just
to mention a few statistics.
