Golfers improve
at Stone Ridge
By Darcy Wallace

The Illinois Valley High
School golf team is improv-
ing its confidence after playing
at Stoneridge golf course on
Thursday, April 7.
After a slightly shaky
start at Eagle Point March 29,
golf coach Matt Knight said
the team played well overall
and less seasoned players have
covered a lot of ground since
the start of the season.
“We have a lot of
improvement coming from
the guys at the bottom of the
roster,” Knight said. “We
improved on our team score
from the previous week and I
hope we can continue in the
right direction.”
Roger Hults led the team
with a score of 81, followed by
Fred Hults with 83. Tyler Rob-
bins hit a 98 and Matt Coultas
scored 105.
With the team in a new
special district this year, Knight
said there are no league match-
es, which means the Cougars
will have to prove themselves
in the District tournament at
Eagle Point Golf Course on
May 5.
“It will come down to
how well we can perform at
[Districts],” Knight said. “If
we can continue to get better
until then, we have a good shot
at taking an individual or two
to state if not the entire team.”
Lady Cougar golfers were
scheduled to play Wednesday,
April 6 at Hidden Valley and
are set to play again at Cen-
tennial Golf Course with host
Phoenix today, April 13.
