* Although a couple had
permission to park their travel
trailer on Pine Cone Drive
since April, the Josephine
County Parks Department
recently did a survey and
found that the trailer is parked
on county property, not
private property. The couple
must vacate within 14 days.
Thursday, Dec. 9
* Police said a 22-year-
old male from Holland Loop
came home intoxicated and
on meth. The man ended
up being transported to
Three Rivers Hospital after
hyperventilating, becoming
extremely
agitated
and
experiencing chest pain.
* Rodney Neil Ochesky, 44,
was arrested for unauthorized
use of person, fraud, and lodged
at the Jo. Co. Jail for failure
to register as a sex offender.
*To the white male adult
driver of the large tan Duelly
that continually peels out up
and down Norman Road and
Illinois River Road: neighbors
are concerned that a child
or animal is going to get hit.
behind the Kerby Landfill,
but deputies were unable to
locate the vehicle in the area.
* A caller on Forest Service
property off Powerline Road
located a large wooden box
that was nailed shut and
had blood coming out. The
remains of a freshly killed deer
were found inside the box.
Friday, Dec. 10
* A white male adult, 50,
slim build and medium height
with light brown/gray hair,
wearing dark-rimmed glasses
and a green vest yelled and
screamed and threw items
at a vehicle driving at the
end of Lone Mountain Road.
No wonder it’s called Lone
Mountain Road, with that
kind of welcome committee.
* A burglary was reported
at a workshop in the 21000
block of Redwood Highway.
* Seems like nowhere is
safe after a theft was reported
at Coffee Heaven. Items taken
from an unlocked, 2006 Toyota
Sienna included a Dell Probook
laptop,
CD’s,
children’s
DVDs
and
prescription
meds including Oxycodone
and a bottle of B-Complex.
* It was reported that a
stolen brown Saturn, license
plate WUX 003, was seen
* Jeremy Daniel Newsome,
34, reported that someone stole
his unsecured bicycle from the
front of Shop Smart, until he
found his bike at Oregon Caves
Chevron where he had left it.
Saturday, Dec. 11
* A Toyota was spinning
“donuts” at 2:17 a.m. at the CJ
76 gas station. Then, at 3 a.m.,
a Toyota was peeling out in a
church parking lot. Neighbors
stated they heard the vehicle
flip, and the unoccupied truck
was on its side in the roadway.
* Heidi L. Lyman, 45, was
lodged at the Jo. Co. Jail on
a warrant for making a false
report and Robert Wayne Choat,
51, was cited for drinking
alcohol in front of the county
building in Cave Junction.
Both were warned about
trespassing at that location.
* Hearing voices in the
woods is not considered
actual
evidence
for
a
stalking order complaint by
a woman on Caves Hwy.
Sunday, Dec. 12
* Fireworks or gunshots
were heard from the Laurel
Cemetery,
but
nothing
unusual
was
located.
* Someone stole an
electric riding cart from
Sammy Henderson, 84, but
the scooter was recovered
and recharged in a secure
place near the CJ 76 station.
* Real estate must be on the
move again — a real estate
magazine stand was abandoned
at Jubilee Park. Three subjects
were also warned about
possessing alcohol in the
park, and sent on their way.
Monday, Dec. 13
* The landlady who
charged a couple $150-a-
month in rent to park their
trailer on what turned out
to be Jo. Co. Parks land on
Pine Cone Drive now wants
the couple to be trespassed
from her property as well.
* You just never know
whom you might run into at
the CJ Post Office. A non-
injury traffic accident in
the parking lot led to the
discovery that one of the
drivers was listed as a missing
and
endangered
person.
* Zarina K. Wylie, 33,
was cited and released for
unlawful cutting of special

cut, a woman on S. Sawyer

trying to kill her. Jesse Frank
Jones, 25, was lodged at Jo.
Co. jail on domestic assault
and strangulation charges.

* The dog didn’t even
bark when a burglar came in
through a window of a home
on Oak Drive and stole games,
an Xbox and military ID.
* Concerned that he had
lost a backpack containing a
pistol and his daughter’s birth

which he had left on the
roof of his truck and it fell

alcohol on public premises
were dispensed to six people
partying again at Jubilee Park.
* A BLM employee reported
being the victim of a hit-and-
run accident on Reeves Creek
with a black or dark blue 80s
style Toyota, a single cab with a
four-inch lift. The Toyota may
have a tube or push bumper
on the front, and probably has
front-end damage passenger
side, as does the BLM truck.
* Richard James Roy, 41,
was lodged at Jo. Co. jail after
several witnesses reported
him shoplifting at Shop Smart.
* The occupants of a white
full-sized van tried to say

Cave Junction man busted for drugs, money laundering
By Darcy Wallace
IVN Staff Writer
Oregon
State
Police seized over
$123,000 in cash and
about $43,000 worth
of marijuana from
Cave Junction man
following a traffic
stop in Sutherlin, Ore.
According to an
Oregon State Police
(OSP) news release, a
state trooper stopped
Cave Junction resident
Austin Gerber in a
2000 Subaru Outback
for a traffic violation
near milepost 134 ear-
ly in the morning on
Wednesday, Dec. 15.
The trooper re-
portedly investigated
further during the
traffic stop and found
over $105,000 in cash,
LSD and less than one
once of marijuana
inside the vehicle.
“We obviously
have not come across
LSD as frequently as
marijuana and other
drugs; that part is pret-
ty uncommon,” said
OSP public informa-
tion officer Lieuten-
ant Gregg Hastings.
Using informa-
tion and evidence from
the traffic stop, OSP
Drug
Enforcement
Section detectives re-
portedly obtained a
search warrant for a
residence in the 1700
block of Dick George
Rd. in Cave Junc-
tion. Detectives then
found an additional
$8,000 in cash, 18
pounds of marijuana
and evidence relat-
ing to drug manufac-
ture and distribution.
In total, the news
report said OSP seized
over $123,000 in cash
and about $43,000
worth of marijuana.
Gerber is cur-
rently charged with
money
laundering,
unlawful possession
of a controlled sub-
stance and unlawful
possession and distri-
bution of marijuana.
Hastings
said
further investigation
is still underway and
did not have further
information
about
the traffic stop at this
time. He said police
investigation during
regular traffic stops
sometimes led to evi-
dence of other crimes.
“We want our
troops to look beyond
the ticket,” Hastings
said. “If you do see
something that seems
reasonably
[suspi-
cious], don’t be afraid
to investigate if you
can legally do so.”
He added that
traffic violations have
led to the discovery
of stolen property,
wanted persons, and
missing children and
adults as well as drugs.
“Traffic
en-
forcement plays a big
role in trying to pre-
vent or correct crime
within our state,”
Hastings
added.
