Starting or Growing a Business in Illinois Valley? Wendell and Artis Owens of Cave Junc- tion, Oregon, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 4. They were married on Aug. 21, 1965 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Wendell at- tended Illi- nois State University in Bloomington, and trans- ferred to the Apostolic Bible Institute. He later received his degree, and was ordained in 1971. Artis graduated from the Apostolic Bible Institute in June. The six children, friends, including Terry Stevenson and family, and the United Pentecostal of Oregon, and their local church, held a surprise “45th” celebration for their parents. This included their marriage, 45 years of ministry, as well as Wendell’s 70th birthday. In the presence of approximately 70 to 100 guests, Wendell and Artis renewed their vows under the administration of Reverend Randy Langley, District Secretary of Oregon for the United Pentecostal Church. Sherry Braga, their daughter, showed slides at the celebration renewing their child- hood memories and some of the remem- brances of the past, the churches they have pastored, and the many accomplishments they have made over the past 45 years. Sherry also read several letters that had been sent wishing them a happy anniversary, but unfortunately there were too many to read aloud at the ceremony. Each of their children, as well as their grandchildren, stood to tell how much they have appreciated them. During the ceremony, a letter and Cer- tificate of Appreciation were presented to the Owens from the Oregon Department of Hu- man Services, Children’s Services Division, commending them for the many years they have been foster parents and the gentleness they have shared with children. The ceremony was concluded with a song and invocation by their dear friend Rev- erend Don Richardson of Little Rock, Arkan- sas (formerly of Roseburg, Oregon). A reception followed the ceremony ca- tered by their dear friends, Terry Stevenson and family. The Owens want to take this opportunity to once again thank everyone for their kind- ness, their thoughts and prayers, and for at- tending their anniversary celebration. And to all those who were unable to at- tend, know that you are always in their thoughts and prayers. Love is the thing that enables a woman to sing while she mops up the floor after her husband has walked across it in his barn boots. ~Cowboy wisdom~ Good Shepherd Lutheran Church In Luke, chapter 17, the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" The Lord replied, "If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you." And, what of us? Do we have faith even the size of a mustard seed? How about a pin head? The point of a pin? And if we do, what will the Lord say of us? In Luke, he says, "So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, 'We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!'" And having done all we are told to do by the Lord we might be called faith- ful...and if faithful...saved.
