Forestry Action Committee

Restoration in Sucker Creek,

Bldg. in Cave Junction. There

FAC has an Oregon DEQ
grant to hold meetings and
field trips for Kelly Creek and
Sucker Creek in the Illinois
Valley. The goal for the Sucker
Creek component of the grant
is to achieve consensus among
the community, Sucker Creek
landowners, and experts on
how to move forward on
stream restoration on the pri-
vate property component of
Sucker Creek.
“This is our first meeting
for this project,” said Susan
Chapp, FAC director.
“Evaluating how much
sediment is still being delivered
to the private properties down-
stream from USFS and BLM
land is important in planning
stream improvement projects
and strategies for the private
land.”

Vega presented the board a
petition signed by 138 students
in support of McKee. Vega
said the signatures were gath-
ered in only one hour.
“Not one person declined
to sign this petition,” Vega
said. “We do not want this
teacher to go.”
Weaver declared a break
so people could leave. Many
did, but around 30 elected to
stay for the duration of the
meeting.
The last item considered
was the contract non-renewal
list. It was separated from the
consent calendar, and Weaver
said that it had been
“modified” as a result of the
executive session.
Board member Robert
Litak, an Illinois Valley resi-
dent, moved to approve the
modified non-renewal list.
Fellow board member Dave
Strahan seconded, and the
motion passed 5-0.

The first meeting of the IV
Food Coalition in 2010 will be
held on Monday, March 15th,
at 7 p.m. at the Josephine
County Bldg. in Cave Junc-
tion. We will discuss the I.V.
Gleaners, Selma Skillshare,
Summer Farm Skillshare and
begin planning for the I.V.
Farm and Garden Festival. We
have submitted an application
to City Hall to reserve Jubilee
Park for Sept. 11, 2010.
Also, we are moving for-
ward with a publication that
will list all local food banks
and food resources in the val-
ley (free meals, etc.). If you
want to help with this project,
