Intruder makes coffee, rummages in GP church
A Grants Pass man who
made himself a pot of coffee
during a burglary at a church
is charged with second-
degree burglary and first-
degree theft, said Grants Pass
Dept. of Public Safety
(GPDPS).
A charge of second-
degree criminal mischief is to
be referred to the Josephine
County District Attorney.

Thursday, Aug. 6
*At a Lake Selmac
campground, it was reported
that someone stole a metal fee
box, but it was unlikely that
there was any cash in it.
*What was described as
a potentially intoxicated
driver was reported on S.
Hussey Avenue at 3:55 p.m.
*California-licensed mo-
torist Erik Michael Bradshaw,
36, was cited on a charge of
speeding (80 mph in a 45
mph zone) on N. Redwood
Hwy. at Glendon Road at
4:11 p.m.
*A horse was said to be
running on the roadway on
Waldo Road near Rockydale
Road at 3:51 p.m.
*Following investigation
of a makeshift campground at
Seats Dam, Danny Rae
Bergeron, 47, was cited on
charges of providing false in-
formation and illegal campfire.
He was lodged in Josephine
County Jail in Grants Pass.
*On Iron Way a man
complained that his brother
was stealing material from a
recently demolished mobile
home.
*Neil Francis White, 57,
was cited on a charge of sec-
ond-degree criminal trespass-
ing in the 300 block of S.
Redwood Hwy.
*A 13-year-old Cave
Junction girl was said beyond
parental control as, while
having a temper tantrum, she
was throwing forks and
dishes. She was sent to a rela-
tive’s to “cool off,” and all
were advised of their options.
*W. Daniel Anderson,
25, of Wisconsin, was cited
on a charge of speeding (58
mph in a 45 mph zone) on N.
Redwood Hwy. at Illinois
Valley Golf Course. Ander-
son also was cited on a
charge of possession of a con-
trolled substance (PCS): less
than an ounce of marijuana.
*Stephen Francis Capone
Jr., 25, of Utah, was cited on
a charge of speeding (65 mph
in a 45 mph zone) on N. Red-
wood Hwy. at 11:05 p.m.
*Scholastica Kratzmeyer
Dixon, 27, was cited on a
charge of speeding (76 mph
in a 55 mph zone) on Hwy.
199 at Lone Mountain Road
at 11:38 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 7
*New York state resident
Alexander B. Sloan, 32, was
cited on a charge of speeding
(68 mph in a 45 mph zone)
on Hwy. 199 near Selma at
12:25 a.m.
*A White Schoolhouse
Road resident reported that an
adjacent residence had been
ransacked and that many
items were taken.
*The resident of a fore-
day, Aug. 14 case, in which
an air conditioner was pushed
inside the church to allow
entry, is identified as Bobby
Lee Gillette, 21. He was
taken to county jail.
GPDPS received a silent
alarm at 2:40 a.m. from Cal-
vary Crossroads Church.
Two officers located a win-
dow at the rear of the building
that had an air conditioner
pushed through, leaving the
window open for entry.

owner was harassing him
regarding moving out.
*Report was made of
theft of a cell phone from the
dashboard of an unlocked car
on Schumacher Street.
*On Caves Hwy. at Fre-
derick Court, Walter Floyd
Rollins, 54, was cited to appear
in Cave Junction Municipal
Court on a charge of speeding
(49 mph in a 35 mph zone).
*At 5:21 p.m., Jesse
Swift, 19, was cited on a
charge of speeding (59 mph
in a 45 mph zone) on N. Red-
wood Hwy. at Waldamar
Road.
*Rebecca Ann Say, 31,
was cited on a charge of
speeding (60 mph in a 45
mph zone) on N. Redwood
Hwy. at Laurel Road.
*Near the U.S. Post Of-
fice in Selma, Joseph Henry
Force, 52, was taken to
county jail on outstanding
Lake County Sheriff’s Office
warrants. Force also was cited
on a charge of providing false
information to police.
*A fight between a man
and woman on Rockydale
Road was reported at 9:06
p.m. They were not located.
*Somewhere off Old
Redwood Hwy. near
Westside Road, a caller said,
someone had been camping
during the past two weeks
and burning a campfire.
*Micahel Ray Jones, 40,
was cited on a charge of driv-
ing with a suspended license
(DWS) on Hwy. 199 at Lake-
shore Drive at 12:55 p.m.
Jones was warned for speed-
ing, and failure to carry and
present registration and proof
of insurance.
Saturday, Aug. 8
*A disturbance involving
multiple persons was reported
on Hogue Drive at 9:22 a.m.
*In the 12000 block of
Takilma Road a man was
warned against using a com-
bustion engine during fire
season.
*Masoud Mehrara, 30, of
British Columbia, was cited
on a charge of speeding (45
mph in a 30 mph zone) on S.
Redwood Hwy. at 3:13 p.m.
*Between 4 and 5 p.m.,
James Truslow Sparkman,
42, of California, was cited
on a charge of speeding (45
mph in a 30 mph zone) on
Redwood Hwy. near Cave
Junction. So, too, were Kim-
berley Marie Dunn, 34, (58
mph in a 45 mph zone); Rich-
ard Audet, 65, (69 mph in a
55 mph zone); and Rodney
Allan Jahn, 59, (71 mph in a
55 mph zone).
*Although a physical
disturbance was reported on
O’Brien Road at 3:56 p.m. no
one wanted to pursue charges.
*Todd Alan Johan, 40,
was cited on charges of failure
to obey a traffic control device
(FTOTCD), and failure to
carry current insurance on W.
Lister Street at 5:04 p.m.
*On Hwy. 199 in Kerby,
30 years experience in water, sewer & pipeline

There was a backpack on the
ground underneath the win-
dow. Additional officers re-
sponded to assist.
A key for the back door
was obtained. As officers
prepared to enter, a suspect
could be seen standing inside
the building holding a laptop
computer and rummaging
through cabinets. The suspect
then disappeared out of sight.
Officers made entry with
K-9 Denny and the suspect
Erwin Roland Cady, 42, was
cited on a charge of speeding
(70 mph in a 55 mph zone).
*Frank Ivan Ruda, 55,
was cited on a charges of
DUII and speeding (41 mph
in a 30 mph zone) on N. Red-
wood Hwy. at 5:23 p.m.
*Cheryl Ann Dailey, 56,
was cited on a charge of
speeding (62 mph in a 45 mph
zone) on N. Redwood Hwy. at
Lister Street at 7:34 p.m.
*David H. Lawrence, 22,
was cited on a charge of
speeding (44 mph in a 30 mph
zone) on S. Redwood Hwy at
Watkins Street at 8:09 p.m.
*David Michael John Jr.,
19, was cited on a charge of
speeding (70 mph in a 55
mph zone) on Redwood
Hwy. at Gold Canyon Drive
at 8:49 p.m.
*At Illinois River Forks
State Park, Delbert Reed
Davenport, 28, was cited on a
charge of PCS/less than an
ounce of marijuana.
Sunday, Aug. 9
*Somewhere in Illinois
Valley, Wesley Elgin Dryer,
29, was cited on a charge of
fourth-degree domestic as-
sault and taken to county jail.
*Someone reported hav-
ing run over a cat on Illinois
River Road. The cat was still
alive, but the matter was be-
yond available resources.
*In the 500 block of S.
Redwood Hwy. a caller stated
that another individual on
scene was “talking crazy,”
and needed to go to a hospital
on a mental hold.
*A disturbance reported
in the 11000 block of
Takilma Road, ended with
those involved arriving at an
amicable agreement prior to a
deputy’s arrival.
*A fawn was said to
have a broken leg after it was
struck by a car on Rockydale
Road. A deputy observed the
fawn flee with a doe, and
decided to “let Mother Nature
take her course of action.”
*A continuing problem
flared up between E. River
Street neighbors regarding
the piling of leaves next to a
fence. The issue was deemed
civil in nature.
Monday, Aug. 10
*Theft of a safe and dolly
from Art’s Red Garter Steak-
house & Saloon was reported
at 7:25 a.m. It was noted that
approximately $5,000 and the
keys for the lottery games
were in the safe.
*At the DMV office on
W. Lister Street, someone
ripped the key card reader
from the wall, causing an
estimated $500 damage.
*A report regarding a
hoax device was to follow an
incident at Sterling Savings
Bank in Downtown Cave
Junction when a metal brief-
was located hiding in a bath-
room. He gave up to police
commands immediately and
was taken into custody with-
out further incident.
He told police he entered
the church only because he
was hungry and had to use the
restroom. The church was
found to be rifled through, and
Gillette had even made a pot
of coffee for himself during
the burglary, said GPDPS.

OSP bomb technicians re-
sponded, and much of Red-
wood Hwy. was closed as the
package in the case, which
was determined to be a chess
set, was destroyed.
*Someone wearing a
hood attempted to gain entry
to the Lake Selmac Resort
store. Some $200 damage
was caused to a window, but
entry was not gained.
*His girlfriend was refus-
ing to leave and was trying to
break in the door, said a man
in Kerby at 3:40 p.m. The
disturbance was found to be
“verbal,” and both parties
were counseled.
*Following a report of a
stolen vehicle on Rockydale
Road, Secundino Baez, 49,
was lodged in county jail on a
domestic menacing charge.
*At Store Gulch on Illi-
nois River Road a caller com-
plained that people in the
day-use area were firing guns.
*On N. Junction Avenue
at 10:42 p.m. a complainant
reported that a young man
had been assaulted in Jubilee
Park. Youths contacted at the
park denied any knowledge
of the incident. They were
advised of park open hours
and moved on.
Tuesday, Aug. 11
*At 12:58 a.m. a caller
stated that a man had been
assaulted in the 400 block of
S. Redwood Hwy. The vic-
tim, who’d lost consciousness
for a time and was vomiting,
was said to have suffered a
punch in the head and to have
struck his head on the pave-
ment. Neither the patient nor
his assailant were located.
*A Laurel Road resident
was taken by American
Medical Response to Three
Rivers Community Hospital
with an apparent methadone
overdose.
*A group of 15 transients
was reported hanging around,
“being a nuisance” in the 300
block of S. Redwood Hwy. at
2:52 p.m. One man was con-
tacted and told to move on.
*In O’Brien a caller was
concerned about threats made
by a man who said he’d shoot
anyone on his road. The prob-
lem was that the road, actu-
ally an easement, didn’t be-
long to him.
*An O’Brien resident
reported that someone had
been using her credit card
without authorization.
*A horse was logged as
wandering loose on Warren
Road at 8:19 p.m.
*An alarm was activated
at Lorna Byrne Middle
School at 7:58 p.m. when two
girls pulled on a door appar-
ently left unlocked. Nothing
appeared amiss inside.
