pencil portraits, and “Real
and Surreal” oil paintings.
At Embroidered Adapta-
tions, instrument builder Mi-
chael Scott will display some
of the pieces he has built as
he demonstrates “The Fine
Art of Violin-Making.” Visi-
tors will be welcome to view
the antiques, furniture and
gifts also available at this
garment-enhancement busi-
ness.
At the Illinois Valley
Safe House Alliance next
door to the DMV office, rock
sculptor Sandy Kaminsky
will show his new line of
work: picture and mirror
frames covered in a variety of
shells, rocks and found ob-
jects.
Visitors here also can
view how Avon supports
survivors of domestic abuse
and cancer. Linda Corey-
Woodward will be available
to answer questions and dem-
onstrate a new line of botani-
cal products. Refreshments
will be served.
ArtWalk will welcome
Blue Lotus Wellness Center,
located above the state liquor
store. Holistic health consult-
ant Joanna Jackson has
planned a grand opening fea-
turing art, food and entertain-
ment, including work by
metal sculptor Curtis Bloom,
and Patricia Bloom, who will
demonstrate Hafla Belly
Dancing.
Award-winning poet
Michael Spring will read
from his books blue crow and
Mudsong, as well as new
works. Wall art watercolors
by Deborah Dawson will be
displayed; and Kimberly Fu-
jita oil paintings.
Raw food treats prepared
by Ania Semper, a licensed
massage therapist, will be
available for tasting. The Up-
stairs Gallery also will be
open for ArtWalk. Gabriella
Salas-Groth will present her
“Soul Shine Project” and
there will be wine tasting.

8 p.m. Aug. 14,
and 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. on Satur-
day, Aug. 15.
Friday night
will feature a 20-
quilt preview of
the
Valley
Chicks’ October
display and a
continuing quilt
raffle.
Also,
Malaya
and
Gerry Canning
from
Happy
Camp will show their paint-
ings and photography.
“Caves and Bears” will
be displayed both days: There
will be four Grants Pass
“Bearfest” bears painted by
Lane Cosner, as well as Seat-
tle artist Hester Mallonee’s
acrylic paintings expressing
“Impressions of the Oregon
Caves.”
A free craft project will
be available for young and
old. IRVAC will sell juice
and soft drinks in support of
Learning Through Art. Spe-
cial placemats created to help
fund Wanda Goines’ mural of
the Oregon Caves also will be
available.
Blackberry Jam will be
celebrated Aug. 14 and 15 at
Nacho Mama’s with Nature
photography by Kay Ekwall,
local vendor displays on the
parking lot, live music and a
variety of blackberry treats.

Cave Junction’s Second
Friday ArtWalk is brimming
with delightful experiences
for art lovers.
Attractions will range
from meeting award-winning
clay and basketry artist Kris
Schumacher, to hearing live
music from 2009 IVHS vale-
dictorian Sara Austin. And
there will be many more ac-
tivities and attractions along
the way.
Austin, who will be
heading off for college, will
give farewell performances of
her popular original composi-
tions at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30
p.m. at Subway Restaurant.
Kris Schumacher studied
pottery in Indiana and later,
weaving and basket-making
in Illinois. These separate
disciplines inform her
uniquely beautiful pieces
which reflect the natural
beauty of the Pacific North-
west.
Schumacher is a recent
winner of an art award from
Rogue Community College,
and her work will be dis-
played at I.V. Visitor Center
throughout the month. Also at
the visitor center, guests can
experience “The Art of Sum-
mer Cuisine,” specially pre-
pared by Billie Coakley,
owner of Cabin Chemistry.

Featured Artist for August,
will be available at Taylor’s
Country Store to discuss his
recent photography. Another
Illinois Valley High School
grad, Caleb Orton, an up-and-
rising local talent, will sere-
nade dinner patrons accompa-
nied by his acoustic guitar.

rib, and halibut with béar-
naise sauce.

feature live music from
Matty, Dave and Sol. Visi-
tors are encouraged to visit
