Oregon, Calif. counties to practice SAR skills
The Josephine County
Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), Search
And Rescue (SAR) Division
will host the third annual Cali-
fornia/Oregon (CORSAR) Sum-
mer Exercise at Sam Brown
Campground from Thursday
through Sunday, June 11 to 14.
This event will bring to-
gether ground searchers,
K-9 units, mounted posse, ATV
teams, and search managers to
camp, study and work on coor-
dinated projects together as
integrated teams.
California/Oregon Re-
gional Search And Rescue,
CORSAR, was established in
2006 as a means to improve
regional communications
between county law enforce-
ment agencies during ex-
tended search and rescue op-
erations. The group’s mission
is to provide intercounty sup-
port by providing additional
resources when needed.
Said Sara Rubrect, JCSO
Emergency manager and SAR
coordinator, “We anticipate
that approximately 300 people
will be attending this event
with most camping in tents or
RVs.
“CORSAR Members
include SAR units from two
counties from Northern Cali-
fornia (Siskiyou, and Del
Norte) and six from South-
western Oregon (Josephine,
Douglas, Jackson, Klamath,
Curry, and Coos) counties
that often provide each other
mutual SAR aid. Also partici-
pating will be BLM, Civil Air
Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard
The schedule of events:
June 14: Welcome, regis-
tration and potluck dinner.
June 15: All-day training
modules: Land Navigation,
GPS, Personal Rope Safety,
Survival Skills, Search Tac-
tics, Night Search utilizing
“sound sweep” techniques.
June 16: All-day mock
search for two “missing” hik-
ers. This exercise will utilize
resources from all agencies.
June 17: Search team
competitions and awards.
Said JCSO, “This four-
day event will provide an in-
credible interagency training
opportunity and invaluable
search data that may help to
eliminate or minimize obsta-
cles for future search mis-
sions. This event will allow
the participants to work to-
gether as a unified command
and share ideas.”
Volunteers needed to fill county
airport advisory board positions
Applications to fill positions on two airport advisory boards are
being accepted by Josephine County Board of Commissioners.
Grants Pass and Illinois Valley airports will have advisory boards
with seven members each.
The boards are to be comprised of one representative of the
chamber of commerce, one from a civic or business organization, one
economic development organization representative; two members
who are tenants or airport users and two members at large.
Applications are available in the commissioners’ office, Room
157 in the Josephine County Courthouse in Grants Pass, or online at
co.josephine.or.us. Click on “Board of County Commissioners,” then
click “Documents and Forms.”
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems
just with potatoes.
