Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, Ore. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 Page 10 TRSD food program seeks sites The Three Rivers School District (TRSD) summer food program is looking for sites where meals can be provided to needy children, ages 1 through 18. The program will start June 15; run Mondays to Fri- days until Aug. 28; and serve breakfast and lunch. Michael Morris, TRSD Food & Nutrition Services director, said that all the area schools participated last sum- mer, along with the Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance and Community Bible Church. He added that the program served more than 37,000 “hearty, nutritious” meals last year. “My feeling is, the more sites we can get, the more access there will be for kids, and the more kids will eat or have the opportunity for food that they may not have at home,” Morris said. “It’s all about the opportunity to feed more kids.” Sites must be approved through the Oregon Dept. of Education. Site sponsors must attend program training in order to qualify. Morris said that he would prefer to have notifications from potential sites turned in by June 1, but that applications are accepted throughout the summer. “We want everybody to be able to apply,” Morris said. “The only thing we ask is that they have at least a two-week program.” The summer training program will be held at the TRSD Food & Nutritional Services Office at 126 Ringuette St. in Grants Pass on June 11.
