She is a senior, and has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average. Yeoman is a member of the IVHS Chapter of National Honor Society, the school Mathletes squad, and the cross country and track teams. She has been honored with the Most McKenzie Yeoman Valuable in cross country and Most Inspirational and Most Valuable awards in track. She earned Skyline Conference First Team and Second Team honors in cross country. And the outstanding student has received the Skyline Confer- ence Scholar Athlete Award. She is the current president of the IVHS Associated Student Body. During summer 2008, Yeoman was a singer at OK Corral Restaurant on the Rogue River. She is not sure where she will attend college beginning in fall 2009 after graduation on June 4, but she plans to take pre-med classes and then attend medical school to become an anesthesiologist. Ford Family Foundation Lists Grant Recipients Three persons from Illinois Valley have been chosen as new Ford Scholars, and will receive renewable scholarships covering 90 percent of each student’s unmet financial needs. Recipients from Kerby are Alyssa Burdick and Daniel Le- bowitz, both of whom are to attend Southern Oregon University at Ashland. Cave Junction resident Michelle LaPierre is to attend Lewis & Clark College at Portland. The foundation also announced that Louis Levison, of Cave Junction, is the recipient of a Ford ReStart scholarship. He is to attend Oregon Institute of Technology at Klamath Falls. Zonta Club Zonta Club of Grants Pass Foundation is accepting appli- cations for funds to be distrib- uted during September 2009. Zonta International is a worldwide organization with its main goal to improve the legal, political, economic, edu- cational, and professional status of women through ser- vice and advocacy. The Zonta Club of Grants Pass Founda- tion makes annual grants to selected nonprofit organiza- tions in the community whose missions are similar to Zonta’s. Selma Community Center Beginning in November, Jeanne Gostnell, a certified circular strength training coach, plans to offer a series of six classes. Rogue Valley Women's Barbershop Chorus The chorus is practicing for its next fund-raising concert on Dec. 14 at Bethany Presby- terian Church in Grants Pass. “Shower-singing women” who would like to give Barber- shop a try can attend a weekly practice held at the Boys & Girls Club facility in Grants Pass on Thursdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The chorus is a non- profit organization with a pur- pose beyond a love of singing. The proceeds from its perform- ances allow it to present grants to the choral programs at all five area high schools and the combined elementary/middle school honor choir. Mrs. Low was born on Aug. 14, 1922 in Perry, Okla. On Aug. 6, 1940 in Los Ange- les she married Mathew W. Low. She was known as a lov- ing wife and mother. She moved from California to Selma 28 years ago. Mrs. Low was a lifetime member of the Roman Catholic Church and had attended St. Anne Catholic Church and St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church for the past 28 years. Her hobbies included sew- ing, knitting, and oil painting. Besides her husband, Mathew Low, of Selma; she is survived by a son, Ron Low, of Santa Clarita, Calif.; three grandchildren; a great- granddaughter; and a niece. Wayne Petsch Former longtime Illinois Valley resident, Wayne Cyril Petsch, 86, died Sept. 3, 2008 at McCook Community Hospital in McCook, Neb. Mr. Petsch was born near Wauneta, Neb. on Dec. 30, 1921, the son of the late Guy F. & Jessie Emma (Crosson) Petsch Crampton. On Feb. 28, 1940, Mr. Petsch joined the U.S. Navy in which he spent three years as a Chief Motor Machinists Mate on the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill during World War II. On July 14, 1945, he mar- ried Mildred “Millie” Elizabeth Anderson in Bremerton, Wash. The couple and their three chil- dren made their home for 20 years in Cave Junction, where Mr. Petsch was superintendent at Forest Green Lumber Co. After his stepfather died in 1968, Wayne and Millie moved to Nebraska, where they farmed and ranched. Gladys May Conroy A private family service will be held for Selma resident Gladys May Conroy, 92, who died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Conroy was born on July 18, 1916 in Bloomfield, Conn. to Frank & Edna (Jewell) Hurlburt. She lived in Connecticut all her life until moving to Selma a couple of years ago.
